Small pea sized bump

posted 8th Feb
Last week I noticed my 2 year old almost 3 year old had a small pea sized bump under her skin on her lower back above her butt. It was slightly red and a little dark in the middle. I thought it might have been an ingrown hair. It seemed to hurt her when I touched it. Ive been keeping a close eye on it since then and today when getting out of the bath it seems to be looking more like a boil or pimple. Its not hot to the touch, but it definitely has some pus inside. She hasnt been ill or had any fever. Should I wait to see if it drains on its own or take her in to the doctor tomorrow?

I would take her to the doctor. Only because i'm a complete and udder worry wart when it comes to lumps and other things of that nature.

take her in just to be safe but dont make a big deal of it. all the dr will probably do is lance it and maybe give some antibiotics

Let it drain.
They might lance it, and you don't want that. Put activated charcoal on it, it sucks it right out.

Honestly, im a worry wart, id take her in.. one of my aunties babies has something along those lines and it ended up being M.R.S.A (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) which is an anti biotic resistant virus.. its a nasty virus and can last for the rest of your life go get it checked out tomorrow!

Its hard to tell if it really hurts her cause she's picky about anything touching her at all. I didnt poke it just lightly ran my finger across it to feel it and she freaked, but she doesnt like anyone touching her at all.

It worries me to no end still. Even though, Im sure its nothing. Everything Ive looked up says its probably a benign cyst of some sort. Just didnt realize a baby that young could get them.

Thanks ladies!

I had a spot that started out like that and it turned out to be MRSA (Staph infection) better to catch it soon if it is something. I ended up with a 6 inch deep hole in my leg when they lanced it and drained it.

I don't know if I am still MRSA positive. I haven't had any problems since then and that was in May 2008. It was awful though. I thought it would never heal and the packing and stuff hurt so bad. DH had it at bootcamp and hasn't had any problems since then either.

oh your super luckyy!! my aunties LO has a sore about every month its so sad to see her deal with it! they can test you for it by just swabbing your upper leg the crease at the very top of the leg, but seeing as youhaven'thad any problems since 2008 you are probably good to go.. its a truly scary thing!

This is most likely not it, but my friend once had a bug maggot that had burrowed under his skin. It was horrible, it was a red lump with a black dot in the middle. Apparently that black dot was the grubs breathing hole.

I grossed myself out.
I really hope it's not that, go get it checked, could be anything.

It is something I would not wish on anyone. I feel sorry for your aunt and her baby who have to deal with them all the time. I hope they baby grows out of it... if that is possible.
