You're not already seeing a Pediatrician? And don't worry about the meconium....that is life threatening therefore I would agree that it has nothing to do with what is happening now.

No, I asked if you were not already seeing a Pediatrician because in the OP you said you were getting a referral.

I can bet he has silent GERD. It happened to my LO. Does he cough a lot?

My son had the exact same problem only his raspy breathing turned into a chronic cough. It took 5 weeks for Pedi's to figure out what was wrong. Finally they did an Upper GI with barium swallow which confirmed the SILENT GERD. He was switched to thickened formula (Similac Sensitive RS, rice & starch) and he was put on Zantac twice a day. After he was on the Zantac for about 5 weeks he was switched back to regular Similac Sensitive. He was on Zantac from about 3 months to 11 months.

OP, silent GERD can be very bad because it could turn into pneumonia. I am not trying to scare you but that is the reality of it. Basically when they are drinking the milk comes back up but not all the way out instead staying in their airways and possibly going into their lungs. Some things you can do is get an inclined crib wedge andhold him upwards for at least 30 min after feedings.

Whatever you do, don't let them give your LO "Reglan". Google it and you'll see why.

My son had the same sound since he was born. All the doc's said its normal and should get better in time. Finaly, our new pediatrician agreed with us and sent us to Children's hospital to be evaluated for "Stridor". Stridor is super common and usually isnt harmful. It means that the folds of skin that protect the voicebox is "floppy" instead of firm. so it causes the irregular breathing. My son is 10 months and doesnt really have the sound anymore. The Doc said that babies with Stridor have a tendancy to be fussy babies, due to acid reflux.

The said my son does have Stridor, and the exact version of it is Laryngomalacia
