re: To Buy, or Not to buy...that is the question.

posted 25th Sep
Ok so I am unsure if or when I really need to buy some stuff. Such as: I really want a baby monitor but I am going through this like really paranoid phase so I keep looking at the monitors that come with sensor pads so that if God forbid the baby quit moving and/or breathing throughout the night I will know. I am so terrified of all the SIDS and RSV and everything else that COULD happen. Is a monitor like this really useful or am I just being paranoid?

Diaper Genies are a waste of time..You better off with Wal-Mart sacks and a closed trash can!!

I have the diaper dekor plus and use regular garbage bags. It only stinks when we go to empty it. My grandparents are home bound and use one, too. I couldnt live without it!

Now that actually sounds worth it, instead of buying the expensive refills. Plastic bags are a wonder!

I have a diaper genie. I love it. No issues with smelling and it can fit 25-40 infant diapers in it, which is the time you need to worry about. At night when they are first born, squirting poops are a big concern lol, and it is a wonderful tool. I would suggest it. At walmart they carry three packs of diaper genie refills for 14 dollars. I would make a suggestion though. DO NOT bother with button up pajamas. At three in the morning getting 100 bottons off center really pissy you off. I would suggest little night dresses or zip ups.

I cannot tell about stroller thing, I got seperates. Especially with this pregnancy cause I needed a double stroller. But with my first, I bought a 300 dollar convertible car seat. I love it.... now. But when I was trying to get her places after birth I had to go out and buy a carrier car seat, was really convenient, never had to worry for support. I also had a moby and a couple carriers. I think mobies are good, but I was too tired and retarded to figure them out lol.

Things that I couldn't live with out while I had my daughter, wipe warmer cause their little booties do not like cold.
A changing table
I slept with my daughter while breastfeeding so I didn't use my crib till 7ish months
zip up jammies
diaper genie
a swing
and a bouncer

All that stuff to me was a godsend. Luckily I spent too much money on my last one and I kept most of it lol.

Hmmm my diaper genie has become a step stool for my 3 year old :-/ it hasnt had any bags in it since he was weeks old... ive had a kid since then and im weeks away from having another........ maybe ill get some bags and make it more than just decoration ;-) honestly all that crap is nice to have IF you dont have to buy it new... My Favorite baby thing is my boppy pillow! dont let them get attached or it becomes a must for bedtime! a bottle warmer is pretty much as worthless as a diaper genie or a wipe warmer....

I thought the whole point of a Diaper Genie was that they don't stink up the place..? My mom had one when she had my sister and I never smelled anything. My old roommate would just toss her daughter's diapers in the kitchen trashcan and the whole place smelled like a dirty diaper all the time. The refills are a little pricey, but I think it's worth it..

I found a pack n' play that works as a bassinet and changing table for when newborn comes home you can have it right next to your bed. And it converts into a couple months old baby bed if you still want it in your room and finally a pack 'n play.

here's one at Walmart made by graco.

I think they stink. And to know that you have nasty diapers sitting there until it's full is gross to me. I tie it in a grocery bag and put it in the outside garbage can right then. lol

I've had three kids. I have not once used a diaper genie.
With my first and second I had travel systems- I used Graco because they have a snugride 35 which is good up to 35lbs, so it lasts a little longer than the avg 22lbs. I found the Graco Quattro Tour stroller was the comfiest ride and easiest push in the ways of travel systems as well. And I JUST got rid of the stroller portion, after having it for 5yrs, I passed it down, and it was still in great condition.
Pack n plays, I used, but generally just kept in the car to use at Grandparents or whatever. I never really used them at home.
I never used a change table, just threw a changing pad down on the couch/bed/wherever and changed them there. I kept a basket of diapers, wipes and changing pad in my bedroom, baby's room and living room to keep things easier.

Crib bedding sets...are they a waste of money? With my 2 older kids (9 &13) I had them but never really used the quilts except on the floor. Now they say not to use the quilt or the comforter so it seems like a waste of $150-$200. As a side note no way did I spend that much on my daughter's Care Bear set...It was like $50 at Walmart, pretty sure my son's Noah's Ark set was a gift.
