re: To Buy, or Not to buy...that is the question.

posted 22nd May
My wife and I have a 6 week old now! We bought a chair for our bedroom and she liked it so much she actually bought one for her mom's house as she spends a fair bit of time visiting her mom. Some times it is the only way we can get the little guy to be quiet!

We think they are a god send!

What do you ladies prefer for a carseat for a new born? A reversable or an infant carrier?

I definitely prefer the infant carrier. My first child only used it for 6 mos, but my second child was smaller and used it for 9 months. The reversible convertible seat sat up too high and my when my child would fall asleep, her head would slouch forward...

My son only used his for the first 5 or 6 months too. And I plan on wrapping the baby whenever I am out so I wasn't sure it was worth the money to get and infant carrier.

For my niece, an infant carrier. I'm thinking I'll do the same when my baby arrives.

See I'm thinking I'll do a reversable because we only used the infant carrier for six months and then had to change him to a reversable because he exceeded the weight limit

Well, then just kidding. I didn't even think about that. My niece is pretty small and will be nearing a change of carseats near her 1st birthday. So, definitely, for you... you probably have it right and thank you for saying that because I'll keep that in mind when I figure out what we're doing for our first kiddo.

No problem. I just didn't see the point of buying an infant carrier and three bases and then having to buy three reversibles. Why buy six carseats when I can buy three and have it last a while. My son is three and is still in his reversible that we got him at 6 months. Also I plan on wrapping the baby whenever we go anywhere so I can nurse him or her.

I got this really great book that I think about whenever I'm about to buy something for my baby. The whole message of the book is that everything that you can buy is just a substitution for that you already have, like bottles for breasts, swings, carriers, strollers, bouncers, etc. for your arms, and ya da ya da ya da. Luckily, I haven't bought too many pointless things =)

Are bottle warmers worth it? I know with my niece, we just let it sit out and put it in warm water. Do warmers actually work?

I had one with my son and didn't really like it. I just used warm water when I made formula bottles and for breastmilk bottles when I watched my friends daughter I put a thing of water in the microwave and then put the bottle in it for a couple of minutes.

To me it's a waste of money.
