Getting Ready to go to the Hospital
posted 24th Aug
As I know I will probably be a mess when I go into labor as I'm taking college classes and living 90 miles away from my boyfriend and family and will be alone until they get here.... (Atleast I have plenty of friends around) I would like to get my hospital and diaper bag ready to go. I was wondering if anyone could suggest items that I should put in either of these. I realize I need to pack lightly because I'll be bringing three times as much stuff home, but does anyone have any good suggestions?

Pack items for yourself like you are going out of town for a couple days. make sure your clothes are nice and comfy! For baby I think I had:
Car seat
Blankets
Going home outfit
Pic outfit
pacifier
Bottles
Diapers...didn't realize hosptial does provide you with some.
Musical Fishy crib hanging toy
Camera
I only live 6 blocks from the hospital so Im not planning a whole lot I can easily have a friend stop at my house and bring me things or my bf can run home!

I almost have my bag packed and I put in stuff for myself like shampoo, deoderant, toothbrush, toothpaste going home outfit for me, socks, undies, pads and a nursing bra. For baby I packed blankets, pair of socks, onsie, going hom outfit. We will have the car seat as well and I am not going to worry about a diaper bag. They have diapers in the hospital, and I will have everything he needs in my bag. I know that I will probably get to the hospital and find out I forgot something!!! Good Luck :-)

Ok, well I am OBSESSED with being prepared. I have EVERYTHING you could need in my truck, which its big so that helps. We live in Michigan, so if my cars dies on the side of the road, I could be comfy for a day or two until I can get some help. And I have a 2.5 pound chihuahua, so I have to always be prepared in case something happens to my little man.
So I am going to of course be the same with the baby. I am only 14 weeks now, so I havent done it yet. But I figure if I put a little of EVERYTHING that the baby could need in the truck, I will be 1, be prepared after it comes in case of emergency, and 2, will have anything I may have forgotten while I am at the hospital or even just out after the baby is older.
Plus this way I am not limited to just a BAG, I have a whole TRUCK. (a extended cab F-150, with a hard topper over the bed too )
But I may be a little crazy, so who knows. LOL

Personally I don't pack anything that the hospital provides. Who wants to take home bloody gowns and stuff to have to wash.
This is my 5th baby so hospital bag packing is old hat for me.
here's what I always take:
1) an outfit for mom to wear home. Don't pack a pre-pregnancy outfit because it might not fit and you don't want to be stuck. So pack something comfy that you know will still fit your tummy: yoga pants and a loose tee or sweatshirt is a good idea, one bra, one pair of undies and socks/shoes.
2) deodorant
3) make-up (if you plan to wear some home...if not then don't..LOL0
4) chapstick
5) shampoo, conditioner and soap/shower gel
6) CD's to listen to while in labor
7) hair brush
hair elastics or clips to keep your hair out of your face while laboring
9) camera
10) phone list or phone book of people you'll want to call with the baby news
Everything else I use what the hospital provides while there: disposable undies, their gowns, their pads, etc...
