What do you know about TANF and filing taxes?

I'd really like any input from those of you who have either received TANF in the past and filed your tax returns the following year or those of you who either work with taxes or know a lot about them...  


What I want to know is - am I supposed to file a tax return? Or can i? I did not have a job for the entirety of 2009. However I did receive cash assistance from the government for 10-11 months out of the year. Am I allowed to file a tax return? Am I supposed to file a tax return? Do I receive some sort of like w-4 kind of form or something similar, from TANF that I am supposed to use to file taxes? Or do they not send out anything?

If you had no earned income for the year then no you do not file a tax return.

ETA tanf is unearned income

i didnt receive anything from when i was receiving tanf in 2008, so i didnt put it on my taxes, i dont think. or if i did it didnt make a difference. i think they cant tax that money.. but i cant say for sure.

I have never received anything to do taxes from TANF.

No they dont send you anything and you do not file a tax return!!

What do you mean? When we get free money shouldn't we be able to act like we made that money and get more free money?? Everyone on TANF should recieve a million dollar refund each year and us working people should get nothing..that sounds fair!
