Spelling is a personal choice just like the name. If a person is confused about how it is pronounced then just explain it to them.

I agree, although the spelling of my name isn't that different - Jennie instead of Jenny. It always made me feel that although it is a fairly common name, mine was slightly unique. It did cause some problems, my kindergarten teacher told me I was spelling my name wrong. My mom wasn't too happy when I went home and told her she'd been spelling my name wrong all this time   But I think even some common names have issues with spelling (is that Ann with an "e"). As long as it doesn't confuse people with the pronouncation (and some people you're just going to confuse - I can't count the number of times I've been called Jeannie) than spell it whatever way you want. But your right, it's still the same name.

when you think about it at the park you are still going to yell the same name as the other mothers. not you are going to holler "Jaiden spelled J-a-h-y-d-u-n-n come here please"

i agree but dissagre also, you shouldent spell a name to unrecognizable things but spelling it kinda different is fine my mom spelled my name which is like kelly, Keleigh and i have always loved it even though some people pronounced it wrong and stuff i still loved it. But spelling things so wrong you can't recognize them that's just wrong

AGREE!!! And all these made-up names as well (caden, jaden, generally names you didn't hear 10 years ago, hence "made-up"). I'm beginning to think that people are taking a bag of letters and pulling out a few to decide what to name their child!! I agree that couples think they are being unique, but when everyone is doing the same thing, there will just be a bunch of random, difficult to pronouncenames. The more classic names will be unique ones!!!

Not hating,I agree "to each his own", just confirming thatI have noticed this as well.

Yeah, don't you think that if my name was Gesika, I'd be a way cooler person than I am as Jessica? Yeah...not so much. This is actually one of my biggest pet peeves. If you want your kid to be unique, pick a different name! I survived with a rediculously common name...spelled correctly, and so will my son! (Ethan) My BIL and SIL's names are Meaghan and Evin....I actually told my MIL that I thought it was stupid....that's how much it bothers me. My husbands name is Mathew with 1 T...and we literally have to say that all the time. And the point that some one else made about yelling the same name is such a good one. It all sounds the same, no matter how you spell it! It just means when some one sends your kid an invitation....his or her name is always going to be spelled wrong! Poor kid.

HAHAHAHAHA!
This post makes my day!
I agree!!!
It drives me batty to see the plethrua of bizarre spellings!
for example
kaeydence
I saw that one recently... all I could think was that someone was hittin' the pipe to hard the morning they named that little girl. But oh, were they so proud of their ARTISTIC MIND!

Name them what you like!
They can always change it later if they hate it.

I would like to add that your children will pick out your nursing home *L*

Be kind... and don't mess with the spelling.

Well, I think I will name my kid Sheqithianium Kaeydence Perez....
After years of teasing from kids in school, countless hours of psycho therapy, and at least 3 rejection letters from the college of her choice I'm sure that she'll change her name and show NO bitterness towards me
and to think....
Her name was going to be Zoe.... daaaang

HAHA!! I get where you're coming from and very much agree with what you're saying..... just didn't wanna step on any toes.

I've chosen "boring" names with normal spellings for my kids. So far no complaints from them.

I was looking at the hospital website in my town and some one named their baby Paizlei. My boyfriends friends daughters all have names after trees. Their last one is named Cedar. Oh and another one from the hospital website... Etearnity.

Not to be rude, but some of those parents must be illiterate.

I'm not knocking unique/classic names since I am guilty on both counts but ffs please if you name your child a WORD and not a NAME (like Etearnity) just spell it properly.

Sweet as that is, Barefoot toes on the highway are meant to be RUN OVER....
You'll pick it up soon enough and you won't hesitate to drive your proverbial big rig
I am not dissing parents who name their kid something like "Ashleigh" or whatever.... is it what I would do? No... its not. It doesn't distinguish the child during roll call unless the teacher spells out every kids name... and geeze would that take forever! but its at least spelled in a way that is easy to figure out.
Ashley= Ashlee, Ashleigh, even Ashlei (however the last is pushing it)
Its things like
Paizlei
Etearnity
Kaeydence
Rainbeaux
Keiley (which she pronouced KAY-LEE)
and the rest of the names that when you run them through the general public can't EASILY identify that bother the hell out of me, and I'm not a minority, they bother MOST people.
If its a name thats a family name and your family is from another country... okay... I am not going to come down on someone who is from East India naming their child Rashiyvea.... Its the dumb parents who don't give any foresight into their child's future.
A name will affect their whole world, I'm not saying don't be different... I'm saying don't be stupid.
Think about if it will be hard for your child to get a job, get into college, become whatever it is that they want to be.
Not only is it the weird name spelling that is an issue, its parents who name their kid things like:
Sunshine Poppy Petal... HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT YOUR KID WANTS TO BE A HIPPY ARTIST?! What if she wants to be the CEO of a fortune 500 company... Is Sunshine Poppy Petal going to get her there?
I think not.
