Excessive Nasal Mucus

posted 29th Dec '09
I am almost 20 weeks pregs and I am having an annoying disgusting dilemma, pretty much every day (and its worse when I first wake up) I have excessive mucus in my throat and nose. I am having to constantly clear my throat and blow my nose. I know that its normal to have some congestion during pregnancy but this is too much. I have a doctors appt tmw and will ask about it but I want to know if any of you suffer from this too and what do you do to alleviate the discomfort.

My nose is raw from all the blowing and my house is littered with tissues by the end of they day. Somehow I can't do a load of laundry without leaving a tissue in a pocket.

I have allergies anyway and I think pregnancy is just making it way worse. I was told I could take Sudafed (didn't really work) or Mucinex. But, I don't really want to take anything. I guess I'm justwaiting for it to go away.

And my lips are dry from constantly breathing through my mouth.

Maybe I should try that Netti Pot thing.

I suffer from it and i'm not pregnant.. i take flonase every day but you can't take that... i'm having surgery on the 4th.. not sure if it'll help but i'm hoping.

try a saline nasal spray in the morning.. it may help clear it out

my ob recommended a sinus rinse or using one of those netty pot things...
I used the sinus rinse in the shower (it is kind of gross to use in the sink) and it worked for like a day...

Are you having a deviated septum fixed. I did. I had been getting 3 or 4 sinus infections a year and haven't had on since I had the surgery.

YEP! ... the sinus infections SUCK.. i hate being sick...

so the morning drainage.. did it stop for you or do you have to use a nasal spray still (if you did before)?

I just hate that when I wake up and have to clear my throat and most of the time I end up gagging and throwing up.

It didn't really help with drainage I don't think. I was just happy to be rid of the sinus infections. And I could breathe through both nostrils!! At least until I got pregnant.

Good luck with the surgery! My recovery wasn't too bad. Just stayed on the couch for a couple of days until they took the packing out of my nose. My worst trouble was not being able to eat enough to be able to take pain pills. Spicy soup was my hero.

It has gagged me a fewtimes, but I haven't actually thrown up.

Try a humidifier at night. Also, I blow my nose really well everytime I wake up at night to pee (which is about three times a night).
