mamas who use cloth diapers

What do you use?
We began cloth diapering using prefolds and these outer non waterproof wraps which my mom and mil suggested because these were how they cloth diapered back in the day..
It's not working out. Mia's bottom looks like a friggin bumble bee !

I want your opinions on what systems you like best, pros, cons, etc...

and yeah I know theres a cloth diapering thread but theres like over a thousand pages and I don't have time to read through that all!!

what are you washing them in??

its definitely the diapers.
basically the old cloth diapering system used throughout most of europe and other areas was to take two prefolds... criss cross them and then tie them up around the baby with a piece of cloth that looks like a pad with ties on the outside.
Its thick as hell and she can't move her legs in them.

I just use prefolds and covers, and a pocket with a prefold and a doubler for overnight, since I've learned I can't change him at night >.<

If you like prefolds (I LOVE mine) why not try covers like Bummis, etc.? Those are usually super cute! Or order some covers from Sabrina, on here. Hers are so adorable!

This is what I do:
Basha in a prefold

Ten seconds later with his cover on

All I do is lay the prefold flat, put him on it, fold it in thirds (or wider if needed) and pull it between his legs and pin (or snappi).

I actually have a few Bummis covers.. the waterproof kind..
but theres velcro on the inside near the leg openings and the prefolds that I have (which were brought back to Canada from Europe) are like a huge square of absorbent cloth.. that I fold myself.. I have no idea if they're like the "prefolds" listed on cloth diapering websites etc...

do you have the Bummis waterproof covers too?
and do you mind (if you have a digi cam and its easy for you to do, if not, I understand) taking a picture of what your prefold looks like or finding a detailed pic of one somewhere and posting the link so that I can compare what I have to whatever the hell a "prefold" is here in north america? I just don't know if I should order a bunch of prefolds or what if its the same thing..

and holy crap the all in one diapers are expensive ! like one diaper is like 30 bucks?!

thirsties are awesome. they have a new duo diaper that i'd love to try - and its a decent price, too.

i use thirsties covers over everything. i have some hemp/cotton prefolds, 1 hemp/velour prefold which I LOVE LOVE LOVE ... 1 swaddlebees econappi (really expensive but amazing diaper) AIO, 12 bumgenius AIO which are ok but the leg openings dont fit my LO so we have blowouts OFTEN (when i ordered them @ first, 6 once, they fit him better but now its a much diff fit ... after i ordered the other 6, lol).
umm i have 36 gerber prefolds which suck ass but i needed something so i didnt have to wash & dry diaps every single day.
i also have some bamboo fitteds, bg is one kind then another brand i dont remember but its awesome.
the swaddlebees econappi withholds tons of wetness and its big enough to add a doubler if you want for nighttime, etc. it doesnt leak on my LO anymore since he now has a little bit of chub on his legs. i wish id ordered 12 of these, lol.
the bamboo fitteds are super soft and i love them as well. esp that kind i cant remember the brand of.
the hemp prefolds are getting too small for my LO (hes 19lbs now) and idk but i guess i ordered the newborn size or something.
this one chick sells covers and other diap stuff on here sabrina squishy cow or something like that. im planning on ordering from her in a few months when LO outgrows the covers he has. (looking for link)

ok so what I have is definitely not like those prefolds.. I already have some snappi's.. so now I gotta get some real prefolds..

Hmmm... It's all flat and the same thickness all over? If so, sounds like a flat...

you fold it in thirds? like... ok is the prefold a giant square when you lay him on it? and then you fold vertically I assume? like the sides in towards his body? does that make sense? haha

They have a bunch of different sizes, the owner's personal reviews, etc. I've found it SOOOOO helpful! But, that's me lol. Even if you don't buy there, I suggest using it as a good starter for figuring out WHAT you want, kwim?

I don't like to put him in it with the prefold folded in the cover, because his poos will run out lol. So I pin it on him... Uuummm... If he wasn't being cranky, I would do a quick photo tutorial for you.
