QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FORUM

How do I delete my post?

You cannot delete your posts. You can edit any post you have made and remove the contents, but you cannot delete a post entirely, and you cannot do anything about people who have quoted your posts in theirs.

How do I delete my account?

You cannot delete your account. You can edit your about me and profile information to leave it blank. The only way to get your account removed is to get banned, and that is not recommended, because you need to break a serious rule to accomplish it. If you really do not want to be here, edit your profile and posts, and if the temptation to come back is too great, try changing your password to some random series of letters and numbers you'll never remember so you can't log back in even if you get tempted to.

What does the moderate button mean and how do I use it?

To send a moderation request on an abusive post, press the moderate button in the post, located to the left of the quote button:

The moderate button is available in any thread in which you are the original poster. It sends a request to the moderation team to hide a post that is abusive to you or someone in your thread. It is not meant to hide posts that you disagree with, or posts by users you dislike, etc. The concept of abuse is subjective, and the moderation team has been instructed to use their best judgment to determine whether or not something is abuse, and consequently whether or not to hide said post. Since it is a subjective concept, your definition of abuse may vary, and you may or may not agree with the consensus of the moderation team.

Having multiple posts hidden as abusive within the same thread will result in the user being auto blocked from posting in that thread.

If you do have any questions or objections regarding a decision by the moderation team, please feel free to make a post in the Moderators Discussion Thread and the moderators will address your issue.

What are the grounds for moderation?

  • Racism, ethnic slurs & hate language (actually being used against someone, not in the context of a debate or discussion about the terms/language itself)

  • Pornographic content (sexual activity is occurring w/ visible genitals)

  • Graphic content (nudity &/or gore) without a warning in the title or at the top of the post

  • Private contact information (phone numbers, work/home addresses, etc)

  • Attacks and/or threats against a member for no good reason (including photos of members

  • Accusations of being fake

  • Anti-choice language/behavior in Abortion Survivors

  • Disrespectful language/behavior w/in Suffering & Loss

  • Linking in drama from other threads (linking threads is ok 98% of the time, but when you're linking a thread that is not relevant to the conversation, just to stir up drama from other threads/conversations, that will be moderated. If the linking does not qualify as a random attack, do not moderate it)

  • Any (every) post by a previously banned member who has come back. They were banned for a reason, thus any post they make is unwanted. See this post for verification.

  • Disrespectful language in Special Needs

  • Disrespectful language in Health and Well Being

  • Posts that would be hidden if they were made in a protected forum (as the protection is for the subject matter, not the forum itself)

More information about various rules here

Why have I received a warning to post considerately?

If you receive a warning when you try to post that looks like this:

A post that you have made in that thread has been voted as abusive by the moderation team of gaga, and it has been hidden from view. If you continue to post abusive messages, and a second post is hidden, you will be automatically blocked from posting in that thread.

Why is my post under review by moderators? Have I been moderated?

If you receive an error message that looks like this, it is probably a glitch. It's unknown at the moment why it happens, but it happens sometimes when replying to a thread. Refresh your page and the error should go away and allow you to make your reply like normal.

How do I appeal a hidden post?

If you get a warning to post considerately because you have had a post hidden in a thread, you can appeal the decision if you feel that your post should not have been hidden.

Click on the link that says make an appeal, and you will be taken to the appeal tab, where you will see any posts within the last 10 days that have been hidden:

Type the reason you feel the post should be unhidden in the text box and click post appeal. You will receive a notification:

Super moderators will vote on your appeal, if it is successful your post will be unhidden, if it is unsuccessful your post will remain hidden.

You can click on the make an appeal link from the post reply screen to be taken back to the appeal tab where you can see the status of your appeal:

Please note that three unsuccessful appeal attempts will result in a revoking of your appeal privileges.

Why have I received a notification that I am blocked from posting in a thread?

If you receive a notification when you try to post that looks like this:

You have been blocked from posting in that specific thread due to multiple abusive posts in that thread, or due to having made an offensive initial post that went to The Drama Corner. The block is for that thread only, it does not prohibit you from posting in any other threads.

When do I flag a post as drama?

To flag a post as drama, click on the "flag as drama" button located on the last page of the thread, at the bottom to the left of the post reply button:

When you click on the "flag as drama" button, you will see this:

Drama is a subjective concept. Is a thread where one person calls a name drama? Most people would say no. Is a thread where everyone is calling names drama? Most people would say yes. Accusations of being fake are grounds for moderation, not TDC. Use your best judgment when flagging something as drama, or deciding whether something or not to send a flagged thread to The Drama Corner.

Once enough people have flagged a thread as drama, it will go up for a vote, which will be found at the bottom of the last page of the thread, similar to the flag as drama button:

After you vote, you will be given the option to change your vote if you so choose:

When do I flag a post as spam?

To flag a post as spam, click on the "flag as spam" link located under the topic:

When you click on the "flag as spam" link you will see this:

If you flag a post as spam, members will be asked if they agree. If enough members agree that the post is spam, the post will be deleted, not hidden.

How do I add an avatar to my profile?

Step by step guide to adding an avatar to your profile.

How do I delete my avatar?

You cannot delete your avatar once you have uploaded one. If you no longer like your avatar, you can change to a new avatar by following the instructions for adding an avatar to your profile.

How do I add an image or video to my album?

Step by step guide to adding an image to your album
Step by step guide to adding a video to your album
How do add an image on gaga

How do I add a youtube video to my post?

To add a youtube video to your post, select the link button and copy and paste the url of the youtube video, and select add link.

The video will then show up in your post when you hit submit post. This currently only works with youtube videos, and not videos hosted at other sites.

How do I add or remove someone from my parentank?

To add someone to your parentank, click on the "parentank" button below their avatar:

To remove someone from your parentank, select the "my parentank" option from either the left side:

or the right side:

of the screen, and select the edit option:

which will allow you to remove anyone from your parentank that you no longer wish to include in it.

How do I remove myself from someone's parentank?

You cannot remove yourself from someone's parentank. You may ask them politely (or not politely, if you so choose) to remove you from their parentank, but they are not obligated to. If you have any concerns about being in someone's parentank, rest assured that it does not provide them any access to your profile that you have not made public. Anything that you have set to be visible to only your parentank will not be visible to those who have parentanked you that you have not parentanked back.

How do I stop people from randomly parentanking me?

You cannot stop someone from parentanking you at this time. Though it may seem strange to you that someone you've never talked to has added you, try to take it as a form of flattery - they like something about you.

How do I ignore or unignore someone?

To ignore someone, click the "ignore" button below their avatar:

Once ignored, their posts will be hidden, though you can elect to "view anyway" if you so choose:

To unignore someone, click "view anyway" on an ignored post, and click the "stop ignoring" button below their avatar:

How can I make my posts private?

If you have unlocked parentank only threads from the advanced features, you can make posts that are visible only to those who you have parentanked. This is currently the only way to make posts private.

How can I make my profile private?

You cannot make your profile private at this time, however you can set your profile to be visible only to registered members, so anonymous browsers will not be able to see your profile.

To do this, go to the my account tab:

In the my account tab, click on the privacy tab and toggle "Keep my profile and albums visible to Baby Gaga members only." and click save.

Only logged in members will be able to see your profile and albums.

How do I make my albums private?

Depending upon the level of privacy you wish, you can do this a couple of ways.

If you want your album visible only to logged in members, but do not want additional privacy, you can make your album (along with your profile) visible only to logged in, registered members by going into the my account tab:

In the my account tab, click on the privacy tab and toggle "Keep my profile and albums visible to Baby Gaga members only." and click save.

If you want additional privacy, you will have to set the level of privacy for each picture individually.

Click on the album you wish to change the settings for, and click on the "privacy" drop down for the individual picture you wish to change the privacy level for, and select the appropriate level. You will need to do this individually for each picture, and when you have finished selecting the desired privacy levels, click save changes:

I'm trying to post a link. Why am I getting an error that says "Your URL is not valid"?

Sometimes when you use the link button in a post, you will get this error:

You may have mistyped the link (e.g. http:/ http;// htp:// instead of http://. If you double check your link and it is correct, and you still get the error, it may be because your link contains a character that the link button cannot render, such as the # character, like this:

If this is the case, you can either copy and paste your url into your post, which people can then copy and paste into the url bar of their browser to view the link, or you can add the link to your post manually, like this:

Click on the "code" button, which will open up a box where you can manually enter html code. To manually add the link, you will use the following code:

<a href="(copy and paste the url HERE)">(copy and paste the url HERE)</a>

(see the image below for an example)

When you press add code your link will be added to the post like this:

http://forum.baby-gaga.com/about920586.html#badurl

What is a comment and how do I post one?

A comment is a message that you leave for someone that will be publicly visible on their profile. To send them a comment, click on their profile and look for the comment button that is located below the "about me":

You type a comment the same way you type a post on the forum. You can add links, images, html, emoticons. When you're ready to post the comment, press the comment button.

If the person you are sending the comment to has you in their parentank, your comment will automatically be posted on their profile page:

If the person you are sending the comment to does not have you in their parentank, your comment will not be posted automatically. A request will be sent to them to either approve or deny the comment, if they approve it, your comment will then be visible on their profile:

Once posted, your comment will be visible on the person's profile, like this:

If you get a comment request from someone who is not in your parentank, you will be given the option to approve the comment which will post it to your profile, or to delete the comment:

How do I block someone from sending me comments?

You cannot block someone from sending you a comment. What you can do, though, is not approve their comment and leave it pending:

You will still see this pending message on your profile, but it will not appear on your profile, and the person will not be able to send you any comments until you either approve or deny their last comment.

Leaving it pending effectively blocks them from sending you further comments.

What is a private message and how do I send one?

A private message is a message that you send to another user that is shared privately between the two of you. To send a private message, click on the avatar of the person you wish to send the message to, and click on the private message button:

You will be taken to the private message tab, where you will choose a subject line (there's a 31 character limit for subject lines) and write your private message.

Press the send button and your private message will be sent. When you receive a reply or a new message from someone, you will be notified:

Clicking on "new private message" will take you to the inbox where you can click on the message to read it. Unread messages will be in red, and read messages will be in orange.

You can also get to the private message tab by clicking on the my private messages button in your profile.

How do I block someone from sending me messages?

If someone sends you a message that you find harassing or otherwise objectionable, and you no longer wish to receive further messages from them, click on the block button below their avatar in their pm:

If you do not see the block button, you may need to click the earlier messages option until you get back to the first message. The block button is only shown on the first message.

To unblock someone, click on the "blocked" tab and check the box for whichever user you want to unblock, and hit the unblock button:

How do I quote someone?

How do I use the search function?

The search function is located to the right of the forum near the top:

Type the keyword(s) you are looking for into the search field and click the search button.

The search results will display any relevant links (there may be duplicate results). At the moment, the search function only returns matches from topics and not from posts.

However, you can still access the old search function by clicking on the search tab in the top left hand corner of the website:

Click the button to search baby-gaga.com and type in your search criteria, and both the topics and the contents of the posts will be searched for your keyword(s).

How can I find out the last time someone logged in?

You can find out the last time someone logged in by visiting their profile. The information is located to the right of the about me:

How can I find out what someone's member number is?

You can find out what someone's member number is by visiting their profile. The information will be in the address bar as part of the URL:

What is the topic watch feature? How do I follow a thread?

The topic watch feature is available at the bottom of a thread, below the "post reply" button:

You can use this feature to add a thread to your watched topics list, so that you can follow it without having to post in it. Click on the subscribe button to follow the thread:

To stop following the thread, click on the unsubscribe button:

Why is my post count in big red numbers?

Every time you reach a 10,000 post level, your post count will temporarily change from a small black font to a big red font, which lasts for approximately 30 posts before reverting to normal.

What does "bump" or "bumping" mean?

When someone makes a post that says *bump* or *bumping* or something similar, what they are doing is "bumping" the thread up to the top of the forum, since posts are shown chronologically by most recent post.

How do I sign up for beta testing?

To sign up for beta testing, click on the advanced features tab. You will be brought to a screen that looks like this:

If there aren't currently any positions open, you can keep checking back until a new group of spots opens up.

You will be asked to confirm your choice (three or four times, lol).

Once you've confirmed, you'll be able to see your progress, and the ways you can earn points:

The first thing you will want to do is click on the "Peanuts Labs Surveys and Offers" tab, and fill out the introductory survey:

Once you have finished this introductory survey, you will be able to access any offers and surveys that are available:

If there are no surveys or offers currently available, you will not see any. However, you can always try to qualify for more surveys by answering more questions:

What are the advanced features available?

Where do I find the advanced features?

How do I unlock the advanced features?

The current method of unlocking the advanced features is to take surveys or offers that are worth a preset amount of points. Each feature is worth a certain amount of points.

How do I fill out surveys and offers?

In the advanced features tab, you'll find suveys and offers underneath "my points history".

For more, see this entry.

How do I customize my about me/get a custom layout?

Once you have unlocked the customized background feature, you will be able to customize your about me by going into edit profile as normal. The custom options will be below the original options.

You can choose one of the 10 preset backgrounds, or you can add a different image that you have either created yourself or someone else has created and offered for use. To add your own background, select the add your own image button and copy and paste the URL of the image, and select upload.

You will also need to set the colors you want to use for your text and links. By default, these are set to white. To change the color, click your mouse into either the font or links box, and a color selector will pop up, allowing you to pick the precise shade and color you want.

Once you have uploaded it, you will see a preview of how your about me will look with the custom background. If you like how it looks, press apply.

My custom image has been resized to 799 pixels. What do I do?

If you get an error message when you upload your custom background that it is 799 pixels and not 990 pixels, you will need to make an adjustment to your photobucket settings to correct this.

To do this, click the more options link located under the blue upload images & videos button:

Then, select 1 megabyte file size and click the save button. You will need to reupload your image, but it should be saved in the correct pixel size of 990.

How do I use the new contest software?

To use the new contest software, go to the contest forum and click the post contest button:

Then, you set up your contest normally, making sure to include your rules, etc. If you have unlocked pt only threads, you can make your contest pt only, as well.

Contest entrants will then officially enter the contest by clicking the enter contest button at the top of the post:

To review the rules, click the rules drop down option.

When someone makes an entry, you will be given the choice to approve or deny the submission, both at the top of the page and in the entry post itself:

At least two entrants are needed to begin voting.

To begin voting, click the start voting drop down option:

You can then select your voting parameters. If you have less than five entrants you are limited to a single round of voting, with five or more entrants you can choose between one and two rounds of voting. If you choose a second round, you select how many finishers will move on to the next round. You can allow people to vote for themselves or you can disallow that. You can also select between votes being public and tallied immediately, private and tallied immediately, or private and tallied when the contest ends (this can be useful to create suspense and to protect against contest rigging since no one knows how the vote currently stands, even the contest host). Click start voting and your contest will be open for voting.

To vote, click the preview drop down option to review each entrant (a view all option is scheduled to be implemented in a future update) and then click on the check box beside your chosen entrant(s) and click the vote button. If you are the host of the contest, you can disqualify entrants during voting if they no longer qualify for some reason. Disqualified entries will still be visible in a separate drop down option.

Once the contest has at least three votes, the contest can be ended. Click the end contest button to end the contest.

If there is a tie you will be alerted (if the votes are hidden until the end you will not know this until you end the contest) and you can choose to either let the contest continue to run and get more votes, or you can close the contest and leave the votes tied.

To see who voted, click the voters drop down option.

How do I use parentank only threads?

To make a thread parentank only, you make your post as usual, but you select my parentank only instead of public at the bottom of the post.

This will mean that only people that you have parentanked will be able to see this post and any replies to it. Anyone else who happens to be linked to the thread by someone in your parentank will see this image if they click on it:

What is private group messaging?

To send a private group message, you begin the same as sending an ordinary private message.

Place your cursor after the first username and start to type the next username you would like to add to the group message. The to: field will auto complete with relevant matches (which helps if you do not know their username by heart or their username has a weird character in it). You can only include people in your parentank in a group message.

Continue adding users this way until you have included everyone you wish to include in the group message, and then complete your message as normal. The same message will be sent to everyone in the to: field.

You will receive notification of new messages in the group message in the normal manner, and the group message will look the same as a normal private message between two people, except that multiple people will be included.

To remove yourself from a group message, click on the x beside your username at the top of the post.

What is a moderator? How do I become one?

A moderator is a member of the forum that has the additional responsibility of helping keep drama and abuse under control by voting as part of a team to hide posts that have been requested for moderation and to block abusive members from individual threads. There are set guidelines for moderators to follow, and requests that do not meet the criteria will not be approved.

To become a moderator, you can be chosen by the forum to become one. This is done by meeting a predetermined set of criteria and is done automatically by an algorithm whose parameters are a well guarded secret. Or, you can earn the privilege by unlocking it in the advanced features.

What is a super moderator? How do I become one?

A super moderator has the same responsibilities as a moderator, but has the additional ability to flag any post on the forum (except those in the drama corner) as abusive, regardless of whether or not that person is in their parentank. If you feel that a post is abusive and should be hidden, contact a super moderator with the URL of the thread and the post you think should be hidden, and if it meets the criteria to be moderated they will flag it for voting by the moderation team. You can find a list of current super moderators here.

To become a super moderator, you have to unlock it in the advanced features.

How do I start/stop getting notifications about pms, comments, topic replies, parentanks and announcements?

To turn notifications for pms, comments, topic replies and parentanks on or off, click on my account, and then click the subscriptions tab.

Make your selections and click apply.

You cannot turn off announcements at this time.

What is the Abortion Survivors forum for? What are the rules of the forum?

The Abortion Survivors forum was created as a place where women who have had abortions or are considering having an abortion can come and share their stories and ask questions without condescension, judgment and attacks from others. Personal stories, good or bad, are welcome. Whatever experience a woman personally had with abortion is her experience and should be respected if she chooses to share it. However, it is not intended to be a political forum, and debates either for or against abortion are not welcomed and will be moderated or otherwise dealt with, likewise with judgments and attacks - either from the original poster toward others (as in, telling others what they should do with their bodies, whatever that is or judging them for their choices, whatever they may be) or from others toward the original poster or others in the thread. It is for support only, and anyone who cannot show support is kindly asked to just "not say anything at all".

The only exceptions to this are the pro-choice and the pro-life sticky threads which are safe havens for those who wish to discuss issues related to pro-choice or pro-life with people of like minds. It has been asked that each "side" respect the other "side" and not bring the opposing viewpoint into the threads.

The rules for the Abortion Survivors forum can be found here. An unofficial set of rules (but we highly stress that you should kindly follow them) can be found here.

Why do people keep saying facker?

This is an in-joke that started because of this thread:

How are facebook and gaga connected? If I share with facebook, will everyone on facebook have access to me on gaga?

*note* this feature is currently in beta testing. If you wish to sign up, click here.

Baby-gaga now has a facebook application. It allows facebook and baby-gaga to be linked. This means when you are logged in to facebook, you will also be automatically logged in to baby-gaga. You can also choose to share the contents of any post you make (excluding PT only posts) with your facebook wall. How you do this depends upon what you are posting. If you are making a reply to a post or posting a contest, click the "share on facebook" button at the bottom of the post, then submit your post as normal.

If you are making a new post, click the Public + my Facebook button and submit your post as normal.

Similarly, if you do not want to share your post with facebook, make sure you have Public: visible to everyone or My Parentank-only checked.

It will be posted to your wall like this:

Only posts that you manually select to post to your wall will be shared. You may choose to link gaga and facebook and then never share a post with your wall, and no one will have any idea you've got them linked.

To change your settings on gaga, go to my account then the privacy tab:

1 - Select this to have Public + my Facebook as the default setting for new posts (you can still change this in the post if you do not wish the post to be linked on facebook).

2 - Select this to have Public + my Facebook as the default setting for new polls (you can still change this in the post if you do not wish the post to be linked on facebook)

6 - Select this to use your facebook profile picture as your avatar.

7 - Set this to allow your facebook friends to find you on gaga, through the member search

These options determine what the default setting will be when you post, but you may still change these before you submit your post. Your post will never be shared with facebook unless you select that option in your post.

You can log directly in through gaga or facebook from the login screen.

If you wish to no longer have your baby-gaga and facebook linked, you can remove the baby-gaga application through your account settings on gaga or your privacy settings on facebook:

How do I jump to a specific page in a thread?

If a thread has more than five pages, you can jump to any page in the thread by clicking on the page number, and typing in the page you want to go to, and hitting enter on the keyboard:

If a member's account is deleted, will people still be able to view their parentank only threads?

No. Once the account is deleted, parentank only threads will not be able to be viewed by anyone, as there is no longer anyone in that member's parentank. So, you will get the same error you get when trying to view a parentank only thread where you are not a member of the poster's parentank. This means if you are a member of a group or chat hosted in a parentank only thread, and the member who hosts that thread has their account deleted, your thread will disappear, and you will need to make a new one in someone else's profile.

What is the baby-gaga secrets profile for?

This is a public profile that members can use if they need to ask questions or get something off their chest that is touchy or personal that they are not comfortable asking on their primary account. It is an official account which has been approved by the administrators, though it's actively monitored for potential abuse by trolls. Having one account for this stops people from making alternate accounts for sensitive issues, and provides a comforting sense of anonymity. If you would like to use the account to make a post of this nature, ask around the forum for the email/password and someone who knows it will provide it.

Thanks. Any questions that get asked frequently are welcome additions. Even if no one else uses it, I will. It's easier than typing it out over and over again, heh.
