Irritated Belly Button? [14 mo. old.]

posted 17th Dec
Okay.. so I tried webmd.com and nothing. Last night I noticed Aisley's belly button is really red and irritated and a little crusty. I've been cleaning it with alchohol wipes and theres no change yet, not that I expect one.
But I was wondering if any body else has noticed their kids with infected belly buttons?

I don't see how it could get infected. Maybe she just got some juice or food or something in it.

use water not alcohol, it can irritate it and make it worse. My son use to get drool rashes and some times they would be limited more to the belly botton depending what he had been wearing and how often i did or didn't change him.

Well, I do KNOW that it can get infected.. but is it something I need to go to the DR for or should I just care for it at home?

if it doesn't clear up after about 2-3 days or gets worse you should have it looked at just in case

Yeah, I've been folding the top part of her diaper down so her diaper doesn't rub against it. My brother is a CNA and he told me alcohol but if you've experienced it, I'll try the water instead. It looks like it really hurts and I'm a hypochondriac, [sp?] lol, so I'm always like oh I have a lump it's cancer, oh that rash looks like it's a flesh eating disease... been that way since I was a little kid. So I'm probably over reacting, but that's better that waiting and then something really bad happening, I suppose.

if you can see an infection then yes alcohol can help, but if it's just irritated then you really just need to try to keep it clean and dry for a while first. But I can see way he suggested the alcohol. Also try some neosporen or vasiline on it, after you clean it to keep anthing else from getting to it and making it worse
