Check into your hospitals to see if they offer an infant cpr coarse...most do for a really cheap price-It looks simple but if you dont know what you are doing you could break their sternum with your pressure, off count,or not be breathing correctly. But cpr is pretty simple but it's always better to be certified to ensure the proper training so that you dont get stuck in a situation where you thought you knew from watching a clip and were totally wrong.

I am CPR certified in adult, child and infant because I'm an EMT and first responder. But if anyone is interested in taking infant CPR, call your local hospital and ask the maternity ward if they offer a free class. Most hodpitals do, just so anyone can take it. It's usually not a class where you recieve a certificate, but at least you can learn it in case you might need it one day! I think EVERYONE should know how to give infant CPR!

that was very helpful simple and easy to remember.

This should be a prerequisite for being a parent   With my first, they did a CPR video, but I think we should all take the time to get certified yearly and review often (oops!!) because you never know when this is going to happen. If any of you know about FlyLady, she suggest have a control journal for everything need to know. I think I need to put instructions in mine in ever there's a case that I have a babysitter who does not know how to do this! Most of my go-to babysitters do, but I think I need to do this!

There's an app for it , so if there is any need for CPR, all you do is hit your app, say baby or adult, & choking or drowned or whatever, and it has full on videos to follow as you do it to your baby/adult.
& its free (:

I think the Red Cross is your best bet for training, OR look at the community classes at your local hospital and usually once a month they offer a class... I have to take the one for Health Care Professionals. However, I have taken other courses, I've watched some of the videos, and the important thing to remember is that anyone can post a video, but is it up to date with the new regulations... I know people worry about the cost of things, but if the hospital offers a course and you can't afford it you may want to consider contacting the instructor... I don't know of any hospital that would deny anyone the opportunity to keep their child safe...

I took the course when we first got a pool. The lady came to our house and brought dummies for everyone & a video. The course included the adult and child CPR. It was only one night, and she didn't leave until every one of us passed it. We actually had to do CPR on the dummy, and you don't realize how hard you have to push or breath until you do it. The dummy's chest had a click in it , so you'd have to push that hard until you heard the click (and it was HARD!) and then breathing, we had to breath so hard that the chest of the dummy came up. CPR for a child is alot different. You can only use two fingers, and alot of other rules you wouldn't know about until you were taught. I really recommend it.

I know Adult CPR has had a few changes over the years. My mom was an instructor not too long ago. But has infant and child changed at all? Its been a few years since I took it.

Being trained in CPR is a MUST when you have children, as well as for anyone that will be caring for your children. I'm a critical care paramedic and have unfortunately seen too many times where a child could have been saved had the caregivers known what to do if the child stopped breathing, started choking, etc. I just saw a post on facebook about smart phone apps:

http://digitallife.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/29/10540533-save-a-life-with-these-cpr-apps

If you want to go a step further a great class is NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Program. You don't have to be a healthcare provider to take the course.

Even if you don't actually go to a class to learn CPR (which I think is always the best), you can learn about it online. This is what we teach to people outside of healthcare:

I was an infant teacher and had to take a class on this for my certification. It different than reg CPR. Its good to take a class on it. I never had to use it on an infant in my classroom THANK GOD!! But i did have to perform CPR on a 2 year old that was in another teachers classroom who was freaking and losing control so I had to perform the CPR the little girl was blue. It is the scariest most horrible thing to see, but knowing how to do it and taking a class is worth it.
