medicaid and your baby.

posted 12th Aug '07
well, since i'm 16, still live at home, and will be a full time student for the next 5 years..
i know for sure that i, personally will be covered by my parents insurance during that time.
[including my entire pregnancy]
i also know that my parents insurance only covers my baby during the couple days i'm in the hospital during and after delivery.
after that i need to have medicaid to cover all her doctor's appointments and whatnot.

i guess what i'm trying to get at is if anyone else will be depending on medicaid to cover their child's medical expenses after he/she is born?
and when they applied/started looking into getting medicaid?

i still haven't done anything about it, and i'm starting to get stressed out about the whole matter.
plus, i really have no idea how any of that stuff works. >.<

well im using medicaid for my prenatal care...and it will cover lily for 3 months after she is born but after that were going to try and get health insurance for her
and me hopefully!
if i were you because it differs in every state i would call like a local medicaid office and start working on it whenever you can because it can take a while sometimes and you def would want your baby to be covered right away
and i know if you live at home they consider your parents income as like your income....im not sure if that applys for your baby though =\

okay i posted twice by accident ignore the one below

U have to apply after the baby is born and it will prolly take about a month to get it cuz they ask for alot of stuff like if u work they ask for proof of income for u and the baby's father and they ask for where u live and proof of it and a bunch of more crap they will also want a copy of the baby's birth certificate and ss card.. Its a pain in the ass but if u are low income u will get one for ur baby.

you know i'm having the same problem too. i'm expecting my daughter within 9 weeks and yet i still have no insurance for her unless i have to apply after she is born, but they didn't mention that to me when i called.. anyway, i'm under my parents insurance tho.

my mom helped me and called WIC and medi-cal.. they say i'm not qualified because my dad's income is hella. they also were saying unless i move out and live on my own i'll be qualified which is hella dumb. so they were telling me & my mom that i should just apply for cash aids or something once i turn 18 which is in september.

uggh.. so now the hospital is saying that they'll apply the baby for medi-cal once she is born, but it's up to medi-cal if she is qualified or not.. and if she isn't then they mentioned a charity so she can pay the hospital back.

.. i feel your pain.
it's hella stressful.
