Amoxicillin...

Hey mamas!
My son was recently diagnosed with strep throat.
They prescribed him Amoxicillin, and a chest steroid.

*I* am allergic to penicillin and cannot take amoxicillin.

But I don't remember what happens to me if I were to take amoxicillin, because I was a baby when I had the reaction..

Have any of you mamas had your child show an allergy to this medicine? and if so, what should I look for in Brennan just in case he does too..

Im allergic to penicillin, vacomycin and clindamycin and I can take amoxicillin.

Usually a rash (that's what I get when I take it) and maybe some swelling.

My husband is allergic, he gets the classic signs, rash, swelling.
He says it's his Kryptonite.

I had a small reaction to it once, rash and swelling tounge.
Sorry for some reason it posted my response before I finished typing. My computer is all messed up.

My daughter had a bad reaction to Amoxicillin. She got the worst diaper rash i've ever seen, then ezcema appeared on her cheeks which looked like the diaper rash(not sure if that was related to the medicine). I myself am allergic to anything related to penicillin and I think she may be too. I hope your son does okay with it.

I am allergic to Amox as well.
I got gives and a little bit of a swollen tounge.

Severe symptoms... hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

• 
  fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
• 
  nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• 
  diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
• 
  fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
• 
  easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
• 
  urinating less than usual or not at all;
• 
  agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or
• 
  seizure (black-out or convulsions).

Less serious amoxicillin side effects are more likely to occur, such as:

• 
  nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
• 
  vaginal itching or discharge;
• 
  headache;
• 
  swollen, black, or "hairy" tongue; or
• 
  thrush (white patches inside your mouth or throat).

aww my LO's have the same thing. When i was a baby i was allergic to sulfa and sulfer. i seen a pic of me and i had hives real bad and swollen. but now i usually just get really itchy. good luck. and i hope he gets better

You usually get a rash, as an adult you will get hives unless you get an adverse reaction. Then you might get swelling..

I'm allergic to amox and I get a rash all over my body if I take it.

James is allergic to it and it gfave him a rash. Nothing huge they just said there are so many other antibiotics they can use might as well stay away from it.

my daughter just recently had a allergic reaction to amoxicillion she had a rash every where from head to toe thats how Iknew she did not have a feveror anything just the rash
