For mothers and fathers that wear contact lenses:
AMO Moisture Plus Contact Lense Solution-
Contains water-bourne parasites that cause pink-eye like symptoms:
-Redness in the whites of the eyes
-Photosensitivity (sensitive to light)
-Sensation of something moving in the eye, particularly over the cornea (pupil and iris)
-Intense burning that is not accompanied by itching
-Extreme leakage from eyes, generally wateriness
It also leads to Pink-Eye (Conjunctivitis)-
Same symptoms as above plus:
-Intense burning accompanied by constant itching
-Discharge that crusts over during sleep
Both are extremely contagious and contact should be limited with your family members, particularly your infant, should you have either. The parasite can lead to extreme eye damage including permanent blindness

Here is some more info on the Mattel Recalls...I received this in my email this morning.
Dear Fellow Parents,
Nothing is more important than the safety of our children. As a father of four, I share your focus on providing only what's best for them. As you may know, we've voluntarily recalled some toys for two different reasons: the impermissible use of lead paint and risks associated with small high-powered magnets.
I want to be sure that every parent hears about these issues quickly, returns affected toys to us, and knows that we have already taken steps to further ensure the safety of our toys. Please visit http://www.mattel.com/safety/us/ where you can learn about the affected toys, what we've done, and to find answers to your questions.
Our long record of safety at Mattel is why we're one of the most trusted names with parents. And I am confident that the actions we are taking now will maintain that trust.
You have my personal commitment that we are working extremely hard to address your concerns and continue creating safe, entertaining toys for you and your children.
Sincerely,
Bob Eckert
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Mattel, Inc.
I hope this information helps a little bit more!!!

I know many different recalls, but the one I'm most concerned with are baby bibs that have some sort of painted on design...majority are from Wal-Mart.

Noticed on Yahoo today, 800,000 more toys being recalled. I swear I'm about two seconds from going into my kids room and throwing away absolutly everything by Fisher Price, Mattel or any of the others that the company operates under. Anyway here's the link again
http://www.mattel.com/safety/us/
This is becoming ridiculous and is under no circumstances acceptable. I know I for one am staying clear of anything made by them for a very long time.

i just saw this on my local news... if CA officials are suggesting it, and it was a baby in minnesota, then maybe other states should take action? just thought id let you ladies know and give you a heads up, i have read a lot of colic threads lately... so here ya go....
~ami~
Recall Issued For Natural Colic Remedy
(AP) SACRAMENTO California health officials are warning parents not to give their children a liquid herbal supplement that is marketed as a remedy for colic and teething pain because several bottles tested positive for a parasite that may have a sickened a six-week-old infant in Minnesota.
Officials say lab tests confirmed the presence of Cryptosporidium, a parasite that can cause diarrhea and intestinal infections, in unopened bottles of apple-flavored Baby's Bliss Gripe Water.
The Minnesota baby so far is the only person with a reported illness possibly linked to the product. It is sold in four-ounce bottles and has an expiration date of October 2008.
Officials advise consumers to discard any of the product they have and to consult a pediatrician if it was consumed by a child who seems sick.

Due to all the lead-caused recalls, you can get lead test kits at the store (I believe that some health departments even have them) to test toys.
I work in a daycare and we've been testing things like crazy. We have a geo-trax set and one of our trains was recalled. Problem is, it came in a pack that had roads, signs, etc. in it and the whole package got recalled. We have about fifty sets of the geo-trax and set them up all together. So, we've had to disassemble the whole thing, and put it in the office while we start testing every single piece before the kids can play with it. Now, not only is this time-consuming and causing us to work off the clock (my mother-in-law owns the daycare so it is her, my SIL, my hubby, and I working off clock) but the lead test kits come three in a pack and they're one time use. So, it's getting very expensive. I am about to say my kid is getting no toys or anything! I don't trust this stuff.
