Need experienced moms

I have a custody hearing tomorrow. I was told it will only be for 10 minutes and it is just to acknowledge that m BD and I have or have not come to an agreement. The lawyer I talked to said he has ever really heard of it happening thisway. Has anyone been through this? What can i expect?

lol.. they are probably going to send you to mediation first then if you cant some to an agreement then you wil have to go to court... it's the way VA is...

i had to go tomediation. My advice for you , settle it there. Some judges are NASTY and will fuck both parties over.

I got this paper with my summons about mediation. it said we could do thatand if nothing was worked out then the case with proceed in court. But we never went because every time we discuss anything it turns into drama.

So you think they will make it mandatory?

What kind of questions do they ask at the hearing?

I would be comfortable with letting him have him every other weeked. it makes it more difficult being we live 5 hours apart. and i really don't want my son gone for a week, 2 weeks at a time.

No they will see it as you alldidn'teither want totakethe time to talk about it or just didnt show up. So no the ball is intheirhand... and they will appoint your kid a Gaurdian ad Litem and he will talk to your child(dependingon age) and come to your house take photos and schedule meetings with both parties talk to other people involved with the kid... You just made it a whole lot harder by not going to thatmediation..and the summons was making itmandatorythats why they sent anofficialcourt document to you...

no. it said it was optional.

well up here when they summons you "optional" means either you choose to work it out or we will.. ...lol

yeah i agree there.
I thought you were saying that it was mandatory to go to mediation before the court date. I wanted to but BD wouldn't talk to me about it.
Have you been to a hearing like this?

Where I actually live (a different jurisdiction but still in VA)
they don't even do hearings. They jut go to one court trial and finish it that day.
Which is why I am havng a hard time with knowing what exactly is going on.
I keep hearing different shit.

Well if that one court place youre going to do it different than anywhere else, thats a little odd to me.

It is probly different from everyone. Depends on if you and BD agree, age of child, length its been going on, what exactly is being discussed and ruled on, is there a CS order, is there a visitation order, have you or BD had a record, list could go on and on.
