We've been practicing elimination communication with my daughter since birth. EC definitely has a way of keeping things interesting!

She wears cloth trainers in case she has an accident, but I will potty her while we are out when she signals -- either in the car, a public restroom, or in the grass

Yes it is, I've never heard of this. I didn't even think something like this could be possible with an infant.This is something that I definitely want to look into. My son loves running around without a diaper (hes only one) so I'm sure that he will enjoy this too.

You can also check out tribalbaby.org, she has some really great tips for mamas even if you just want to try it "part-time". Also, mothering.com has an EC forum and a "late starters" thread, which is basically for mamas with children that are considered too young for "potty training" but want to start the process of potty learning in terms of awareness of elimination.
