re: CYTOTEC for Induction

Quoting shes*almost*one!:“ its perfectly safe. you obviously have absolutely NO CLUE what you are talking about. anyone can "copy ... [snip!] ... paste" off the internet. do you know what the percentage of negative side effects is? go use your google skills and look it up.”

If it's perfectly safe, why is it a class X?

I wonder how many women that are advocating women use a class X drug have given other women shit for taking a class C drug?

heh

Everything has its risks. I researched all of them but Mayo Clinic *yes the same clinic the president goes to for his annual* goes with cytotec if your cervix isn't favorable for pitocin inductions.

I even called L&D before i went to be induced to find out if there was another option. Outside of me going on my own (was already 8 days overdue) that is their policy.

Yes, its good to be informed, i was informed. But scare tactics are ridiculous. All inductions have their risks!
Be informed. How you presented this was not as a resourceful it was more attacking.

Well, I think her anger is honestly come by. I don't think she's upset at anyone online, but at the U.S. health system for approving use of a class X drug, off label, simply because it's cheaper, when other drugs made specifically for inductions, that don't have the same level of risk for uterine rupture, exist.

No other country uses it for inductions.

It's also used off label for abortions, I wonder how many women are aware of that and would be ok with an "abortion" drug being used on them?

i understand that.

I was very fearful don't get me wrong. I had 3 of them over a 12 hour period. I was 1 cm from 36 weeks on until i was induced. Still 1 until my 2nd round of the cytotec. By the 3rd ending i was 2.5 and losing my plug.

The only thing i didn't like was that i was stuck in bed. Wasn't to bad when i wasn't contracting but once i started laying and contractions were no fun.

Overall though i feel if you have talked with your doctor and are being monitored while on it (which i was since i couldnt get up!) You really need to use your own judgment. It is (and was when i was doing research) quite weird that they are just doing it for cost efficiency. I mean its not the hospital that pays for it anyways...isn't it your insurance? So maybe the insurance companies have more to do with it IDK all that stuff haha.

I agree, if a woman knows the risks and feels safe taking them, then I'm all for that.

I think a lot of women just blindly trust their doctors, though, and have no idea that cytotec could be a risk to them.

thats scary. I think my Family Med doctor hated me   I knew to much. He finally said at my 6 week pp that i was the most informed woman he had ever met! (in regards to pregnancy)
I owe so much of that to BG! Such a great support system! Thats prolly why i am so addicted!

(well from your 60k post counts i guess I am not the only one! LOL)

I'm glad you think that's wonderful, you and all your 100 posts. LOL.

If you dont like it, dont be induced with it. Wow.. Simple as that!

Who needs doctors when you have... GOOGLE! .....just admit cytotec is an amazing, safe, effective drug, that has safely induced MANY woman and we can all get on with our lives. stop spewing your anti-cytotec propaganda..

Wow are you ignorant. I guess that comes from living in a country where people are left to die on ER room floors because they don't have insurance. Cyotec is used because it is cheap and effective, not because it is safein all cases. No induction is entirely safe but other methods do have less risk. Drs are not gods and need to inform their patients of risks and contraindications. I think a really good documentary that shows birth in your country is the Business of Being born. They cover cyotec usage. A mother lost her only daughter and grandchild because of this drug. Its really sad. Women need to empower themselves in birth, not just follow along with what the good doc says. Other countries have much better birth outcomes with less interventions and no cyotec inductions.

You think the Business of Being Born is an educational unbiased view on American Maternal-Fetal health care?

Did I say that? Its a documentary, but it does have viewpoints on birth shared by a lot of people. I think your view on cyotec is itself biased.
