I would like to give you a lesson in etiquette, since 90% of you seem to be lacking any sort of knowledge on the subject. Just because I work a shitty, minimum wage job, does NOT mean you have to be a snotty bitch. I'm human and guess what? I want to be in this grocery line less than you do. This superior attitude I get from many people tends to get on my nerves. I'm an educated, polite and well-spoken young lady, don't treat me like anything less.

Now, here is a list of etiquette you should try to remember when in line at the grocery store:

1) Please do not talk on your cell phone while in my line. It's insanely impolite and it makes my job harder because I have to wait for you to stop having this all-important conversation with you MIL about your husbands lack of ability to close the toilet seat. (True story)

2) If you have a special request about how you would like your groceries packed, please let me know BEFORE I start bagging. If I get halfway through your order and you decide you want paper inside of plastic, it's YOUR fault that you didn't say something sooner, I am not a mind reader.

3) Do NOT blame me for any price mix-ups. Guess what? I don't make the prices and I don't decide whats on sale this week. Have a problem? Take it up with the Customer Service Manager. I'm merely the one who checks you out. There is no need to act as if I have a personal vendetta against you and purposefully rang up your anchovies for .10 more than the advertised price....just to spite you.

4) If YOU grab the wrong item off the shelf, again, it is not my fault that you are either a) blind or B) illiterate. I did not TELL you to grab Charmin instead of Scotts TP, so don't act like I did.


All in all, your cashier is human. Don't take out the crappy day you had on me and don't blame me for your shit. In the end, you will never actually hear this from my mouth personally because despite how much of a cuntastic bitch I think your being, I'll just smile away because that's customer service.

I know how you feel i use to work at a grocery store and the thing that irritated me that most was when people were talking on their cell phones when i was checking them out.

OMG this is funny...I can totally relate. I don't work in a grocery store, but I work in a fast food restaurant as a manager. We get the same type of stuff there...I even posted a blog on my MySpace that was titled "rules for fast food". I'm glad to see that other people feel the same way I do about the general public's attitude towards people in customer service positions like this!

I seriously had a women get pissy with me and say "do I need to run your register FOR you?" because her shit wasn't ringing up correct. She was a lovely lady, very classy.

Ugh, I HATE people like that. At where I work, anytime corporate changes something on the menu, people get pissed at us like WE made the decision to just up and change everything just to piss them off. It's like, "Yes, I personally did this on purpose just to piss you off! Now my day is complete!"

Are you sure about that? I thought Illonois (sp?) was like, 4 states away. Goes to show you how much geography I know, lol. Ever been to Buffalo? It's kinda dirty, so if you haven't it's better to stick to the suburbs. All the surrounding towns are nice,,,Buffalo itself, aside from Elmwood village, are scary.
