crocheting help?

Ok so i really want to learn how to do this. I bought one hook, and a ball of yarn, and have been just practicing stitches, but am nowhere near awesome yet   anyone know any good tips/websites you can share with me? how did you learn? what works for you? I found a few videos on about.com but am getting a little frustrated. how long did it take before you got good at this?

I had to be shown how to do it for me to get it. I just didn't get it by looking at websites lol.

I also learned from youtube, by this user mikeyssmail. It took me about 20 minutes to get it.

tanks ladies! yeah I just found a website called NexStitch that showed me how to do a lot, and it ws very easy! now if I could just understand how to read the instructions on certain designs.. I dont get the crocheting lingo lol. I have to be shown step-by-step how to do something....
