OH DEAR GOD......
my adventures in potty training continue.................
today after Samuel went potty successfully, i let him run around nakie for awhile... his 4 month old brother was sitting on the floor in his bumbo chair, i wandered out to the kitchen for a sec, and walked back in to see Samuel (22 months old) sticking his penis in his brothers mouth saying "eat it?"

Are all little boys this curious???

i have a 26 month old. so far she knows what the potty is, she knows that shes supposed to peepee and poopoo in it... i know thats a good start. i've been able to get her to sit on it and all that, but thattssss about it. one time she said "mommy, poopoo potty" so i took off her diaper and she went and sat on it and got bored and pooped on the floor!

On the one hand, it's like brushing their teeth -- repetition, repetition, repetition, and eventually they just do it.

But of course sphincter control is a big part of this; so it'll be sloooooooow until there's better body control.

I'm curious to know how long it took some mothers to fully potty train after they got nap time down pat? Because for the last couple weeks she's done well and had no accidents during nap time and she can wake up and sometimes even not have to go potty for a little while but last night was our first night of trying at night. She woke up about midnight crying and I took her to pee (and good lord, did she!) and brought her back to bed. But then she didn't get up until 7:30 (normal for her) and she had peed in bed.

The other thing I wanted to ask was that I know a lot of people take the drinks away at 5 but normally we eat dinner anywhere from 6-7 so it seems like that would be a bad idea for us since we tend to eat dinner later. And then she goes to bed anywhere from 8-9. What could be a good solution for this?

My oldest, Ethan, was an extremely easy potty trainer and after a week of wearing undies during the day he just flat out refused to wear diapers at night. At that point he was probably waking up dry 50% of the time, but once he had undies on, that was it! He never has overnight accidents. I think he is a rarity, though.

We are the same as you...we eat around 6:00 and then he's down for bed between 7:30 and 8 so of course he is going to get a drink or two. We have never limited him and even allow him to have a drink right before bed, but usually he only takes a sip or two and that's it. It doesn't ever seem to affect him, so we don't limit it. I think it is more about the individual kid and their level of control. I have heard that often times it takes up to a year to night train a kid after they are day trained. It's just harder to pull yourself out of that slumber to get up to pee! Maybe give her another month or two and try again? Good luck!

For some reason she's always been the type of kid to get juice and 90% of the time chug it until it's gone. Then a while later, ask for more and do the exact same thing! I never got it since we didn't ever take it away or anything. But I'm pretty sure she also wakes up dry at least 50% of the time in the morning as well. Should I give it another shot tonight to see how it goes again?
