have you checked out the links on the OP? There's a book for parents -- like the 200+ most frequently asked Q's...I haven't thumbed thru it personally, but have heard it's very helpful!

Hi ladies. My name is Laura, and I have a little boy who just turned two in August, who is driving me crazy with the whole potty training thing.

We started him early, because when he was around 16 months, he would pee on us on purpose when we changed his diaper. In fact, he thought it was hilarious. His face would turn red because he was pushing so hard to pee. So we introduced the potty, and he knew to pee on it right away. A few months later, he started asking to go pretty regularly while my Inlaws were here, so I figured it might be time to get more serious. So I bought him some undies. By the end of the first three days, he was only having one pee accident a day. Then he just quit.
This is our cycle. He will get to the point where he'll have only one accident a day (pee or poop), then he just stops asking for weeks. Then eventually he'll start again. So I know he understands the concept. I have tried sticker charts, rewards, making a big deal out of it, everything. I don't know if I just have to keep letting him do his thing. This time, I'm making him help clean up his messes, and hoping that might help. Any suggestions?

He could be exploring his own power/control over his bodily functions. Sucks for you, but the good news is that once controlling his own body becomes "old news" he'll stop this cycle of regression more than likely on his own.

I think it's a good idea to have him clean up his own messes -- or at the very least help to clean them up.

Other than a sticker/reward chart, have you tried something along the lines of one week accident free = a big reward like a movie/toy/fav activity not often done?

I've been lurking this thread for a while.

My son is 22 months and we started PTing a couple weeks ago, but currently we are taking a break because of the holidays and how crazy it is. I also have been babysitting an almost 3 month old so while we were exclusively PTing, it was very difficult to handle both a demanding baby and keeping on top of PTing my son.

When he wants to go of course I let him. He actually jsut pooped in the potty for the first time on Tues! And has been pooping in it since then  , with the exception of a couple accidents, just barely missing the potty. Once he poops out one turd, he goes "ewwwwwww!" and doesnt like to sit back on the potty to finish LOL. So he's actually doing better with pooping than peeing LMAO

Once we get back from our trip we will get back into exclusively potty training. My mom thinks he'll be trained by the time he's 2. Which will be good because he's going to be the ring bearer in my brother's wedding in March!

Congrats!!!

Any tips you've found that helped? Or did he PT himself for the most part?

We have been giving him a Matchbox/Hot Wheels car if he can stay clean and dry all day. And that seems to work until he achieves it. Once he gets the car, he quits trying again.

I do think you're right that it's all a control issue. I know that eventually he'll stop fighting me on it, it just drives me nuts some days. lol

So is the car a daily reward? If so, maybe extend that out to say a week of staying clean/dry he gets 2 cars? (Saves some money for you and gives him a bigger goal).

he PTed himself for the most part. Although, Pull Ups are rip offs. I had bought the ones that give them the cooling sensation and that's bs. I thought about buying the Kushies training pants, but decided not to. He still wears Pull Ups but only so he can get used to the big boy pants.

What works for us is either going naked or undies and stickers. For poop I give him a piece of candy.

Hello,
My daughter is 19 months old, and we planto startPTing after the new year. We have tried a few times, but she has no interest in the big potty-I will be getting a little potty just for her sometime soon.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, she really wasn't showing many of the behavioral ready signs. She is now becoming more aware of when she is soiled/wet and trying to take her pants down. She also loves mommy's undies.
Wish us luck. I've been lurking for tips and checking out links, but any other advice is also welcome!

Good to know about the cooling sensations. Thanks!!

Routine! That's my tip.

Darwin loves to sit, wipe, flush. Even when he does nothing to warrant a wipe or flush.

I updated the OP with a "warning" about pull-ups leaking and not cooling after a pee for some people.

it didn't leak with Caleb, he just never felt any "cool" sensation. Pull Ups = diapers

other mommas have had leaking concerns, so I thought I'd put both reported concerns
