Quoting Mer is a Mean Girl:“ You can intro the potty to her, tell her what you are doing when you go (have her in the room w/ you) ... [snip!] ... toilet paper (they love to unroll it), say bye bye when you flush, get her some cool foamy soap to wash her hands with, etc.”

I like the idea of designating potty themed books for potty time only.

Since we only have the baby seat that goes on the big seat, Darwin is backing up to the toilet and lifting a leg. LOL...it's like a mac truck/dog combo. tooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuute

Quoting Animal Guardian:“ Does a sad face cancel out a happy face/star? (assuming X # of stars = reward)”

No... I think just putting a sad face does it. I didn't want to take it too far. When they are this little a sticker is the world and a sad face is enough for them to strive for the sticker.

I think typical signs are grunting, squatting, etc.

Quoting Animal Guardian:“ Did you find your LO abusing the candies? For example, my niece who will be 3 at the end of this month ... [snip!] ... mouth grinning in a "haaaa haaaaaaa" way. It irked me soo soooo bad!! And SIL would just be like, "oh well. She did go."  ”

No... I would keep the candies in a zip lock in the top of the refrigerator and she did not get to pick them, I gave them to her.

Animal Guardian hates how Elmo talks in 3rd person.

Did she not pay attention the pic on the sticker and just think "hey a sticker is a sticker and I got one! Yaaaaay!" ?

Thank you! She LOVES books so maybe that will help. I'm going to hafta baby proof the bathroom a little more so shes doesnt get as distracted. I expect her to run around the first few times since sitting still is not her forte LOL maybe even letting her play with the toilet paper and stuff would intrigue her. I guess i will just introduce her a little more to the bathroom first and then the potty and see if she will possibly make sum sounds or something so I know she understands things (shes very quiet and doesnt say anything). I even say a Dora The Explorer potty book and she loves loves loves Dora.

I.....I.....*sigh* I just can't do candies.

Heck, if I can't give strangers candy at Halloween, I doubt I'll ever be able to give Darwin candies as a reward.

But I agree that keeping them out of reach and handing them out yourself is the best path to take if you choose candies.

I didn't give a sad face sticker... we drew it. I found this way very effective but every child is different.
Potty training at night... I just got very lucky with my girls. Once we started the potty during the day I did pull ups at night. They did not regress... they make these pull ups with pictures on them and in the morning they would be so excited that they still had the pictures! (If you pee the picture disappears) Just having the picture on it was reward enough for them!
As far as potty training being normal for age three... I personally don't agree. My little girl is three and she goes to pre school. It is only twice a week for a few hours, building social skills since I stay at home, but you have to be potty trained to do that. Do we have an occasional accident, yes. She doesn't like the feeling of it and that in itself is enough "discipline" for her. She cries and feels bad. I always comfort her and bring her new clothes into the bathroom because it's embarrassing to have to walk out and get your own. All I'm trying to say that is if you show enthusiasm when they do it the right way, they feel bad enough when they have accidents.

We drew the sad face so it would differentiate from the sticker.

Okay.

Sorry for all the questions! I'm just interested in the ins-and-outs of successful techniques from you and others.

Since Darwin is still in the association stage, I want to be prepared when it comes time to full out PT.

I saw that one too but we do'nt do dora here..LOL.  We are sesame street, yo gabba gabba and disney stuff
I would let her play with the TP, let her throw some pieces in the toilet and watch them go down the drain.  If it gets her to want to go IN the bathroom that is the first step!

I agree about not playing with TP.

Darwin gets 2-3 squares to wipe (me, him, or whoever is on the toilet) and then he has to put it in the potty, flush, and say bye bye to it.

Oh, and since I keep that same routine, I'm hoping to build the connection that once you get the TP you can't stay on the potty playing around. I'd rather him take forever and a day pre-TP than play with the TP while on the potty.

Thanks for linking me here !

My daughter just turned 2a few days ago. When her diaper is wet she will only tell me if I ask her.. When she poops, she will run over and tell me! She has been doing this for about a month.

When she poops, she squats down, is very quiet, and if anyone goes near her she says "no! poop!" .

But for the past week, when she poops, she hasn't been telling me, and when I ask her she says "no poop mimi". I'm not sure why she stoppped all of a sudden.

I thought she was doing so well, and that we were getting there with the signs! Now i'm not sure what to do. We plan on buying a potty asap, but I just don't want to turn her off of potty training.
