I need some advice.

posted 14th Nov
I need some help. I want to have an all natural childbirth and all though my husband says he is all for it, he has also said that he is nervous and not quite sure what to do. So I went out and bought him the book "Husband-Coached Childbirth: The Bradley Method." He has yet to read or help me in anyway to get ready for the birth of our second son. So I am under the impression and I feel like I will be doing this alone.

You can call this whatever you like, yes it is a little early to worry, yes he is my husband and may not be into it or think it is that important right now. I am not here asking if what I am thinking and feeling is rational. I am just looking for help on how to have a natural childbirth without any support at any point.

So far I have packed:
the game Racko
some of Isaiah's kid books that are easy to read to myself
cards
a picture of Isaiah when he was a baby
sudoku book
heat things (two bags of beans in cloth that can be heated in the micro)
Body pillow

Do I need anything else? Can you think of anything else?

I am going to the hospital at some point so I will get help from the midwife and nurses but I can't count on them the whole time. They do have a birthing tub, shower, birthing ball, my midwife pretty much said anything you can think of we have.

What techniques did you use?

Thanks.

Unfortunately we don't have the money by any means or that would be my first stop. Thanks.

If you find the right one, they do it on a donation basis. I am not paying mine.

Doulas don't seem all that expensive. I was curious so I looked one up in my area and she only charges $1,500

Mine normally charges 500. She knew we were having some financial issues, so she offered to do it on a donation basis. I am very thankful. I will pay her a bit after the delivery and make her a really nice gift basket.

Try to find a doula in training... i've seen craigslist ads for them offer their services for free since they need to attend so many births before they can be certified. obviously make sure you research these people... lol

That is expensive. There are a million other things I could be spending that money on.

There are no listings for doulas in training in my area. I'll call my doctor on Monday to see if she knows of any doulas.

Does anyone have advice other than getting a doula?

Hi Ashley - I gave birth three times naturally. I would suggest you check with the Health Resource Centre about registering for Lamaze Classes. That is what I used, and it was wonderful - and you can have a friend in there with you - anyone you wish to be in the birthing room. I'm sure they still teach Lamaze Breathing - and I wish you all the best.
