genetic disorder - would you have more kids?

posted 14th Nov
If your child was diagnosed with a genetic disorder that ranges from mild to severe (death being the severe end of the spectrum), would you have more children knowing those subequent kids had a 50% chance of being affected by the same disorder?

Probably not. I wouldn't want to risk it.

possibly, it'd depend on what it was

What a question, I don't know I want to say yes, but it's so selfish to have more if they will forever be at a handicap or treated differently.

Shit, I don't know. I'm going to say no. I'd adopt I think.

No way. I would be so sad, but I'd just have to deal with not having more.

depends on the disorder. I mean my friends son has autism and some other health problems that they think are genetic and she is having another. Her son is the sweetest/funniest little boy ever. I am only having one kid so I wont need to make that decision though.

probably not we want to adopt kids anyway or I'd look into where they look at the egg and sperm for flaws and have it implanted if possible

eta thinking about it, it does depend on the severity. I wouldn't want to watch a child suffer and be in pain and watch themdie but if it was mildI would still have kids

It depends on the severity. Like say my child was diagnosed with a mild form, then I more then likely would.

i dont know..thats a tough one. well if i knew they were going to die then i definitely wouldnt have children..but if it was something they could live with that didnt have any bad effects or concequences then maybe i would.

Nope. I couldn't do it. I couldn't know that I was the reason my child is sick. I could not have another, knowing the same thing could happen or worse.

It all depends. What the disorder is... if the child could live comfortably if they did have the disorder.. if we could afford the medical bills if the child had the disorder... And if we were willing to have a special needs child.

Financially, we would not be able to have a special needs child... So, we would not TTC if we had a 50/50 chance. Simply because I would want our child, either way, to be comfortable.
