Colic Calm

posted 3rd Aug '07
Has anyone used this product before?
My son is gassy and Mylicon only works in the stomach and not intestines, where most of his gas his. He takes it like a champ, no crying, just grunting and groaning. He is constantly farting and is a good burper. But sometimes he pushes so hard to get the gas out, that he will cause himself to spit up and hour after eating. We did the Mylicon thing, like I said, and it doesn't do anything for him. We have been using soy formula, along with breast milk, for 2 weeks now, and he has had some relief with it.
Our Colic Calm just arrived today and we haven't used it yet since he is only gassy at night. Appartently it is 95% effective and is the only product to work through the whole digestive system. I know that I don't like the fact that it is a black solution and has already stained my comforter, I am sure will stain my son's mouth and clothes.
I hope it works for him, I hate seening him pushing so much to get the gas out.

I have never used that product so sorry I can't be more helpful, but my son has the same problems switching to soy helps but he still suffers some pretty painful gas. Let us know how it works out for you.

Ok so we have now given it to my son twice. It stain his mouth and onesie black, but apparently it is temp on clothes, use a pre-treat when washing. He just woke me up with his grunting and groaning from gas and I gave it to him. Some relief noticed within about 5-10 mins, just some grunting and groaning now. Before he had the hiccups and they went away almost immediately following the Colic Calm.
They say it can take a couple of doses before working and I only gave him the 1/4 tsp both times instead of the 1/2. 1/4 tsp is way too much liquid, let alone the 1/2.
Be careful of the dropper, it squirt out very fast and apparently doesn't taste that great, my son cried the first time he tasted it...he loved the taste of Mylicon.
Remember that because of the charcol, it does absorb some of the nutrients they take in. I guess that is a small price to pay for our kids to get some relief.

My gripe water also says to give him 1/2 tsp. I think that sounds like a lot. I was thinking that I would try 1/4 tsp. too.

We have now given it to Kenny 3 times, 1/4 tsp everytime, it has been working better than the Mylicon, but we may need to up it to the 1/2 tsp soon. Try the 1/4 first and see how it works for you.

I gave him some today (1/4tsp) and it stopped his hiccups right away! The brand that I bought is Wellements and it doesn't have any charcoal in it. He loved the taste and it didn't stain anything. I'm glad over that. His vitamins stain everything. So you've definately seen a difference in how gassy he is?

i just ordered the wellement gripe water too. hope it works. Parker is very gassy and has only been pooping once a day. it's sticky and green and smells horrible. i think it's the mylicon drops but i am not sure. he eats carnation good start supreme formula, that's what WIC gives me and i have been giving him and oz or two of breast milk to get his bowels moving, which works like a charm, btw. anyone else have problems with constipation? did gripe water help that too?
