Yeah if I were you, I wouldn't try to modify that.

Does that really help? I normally put my LO to bed around 10-11 because its easier for me to get up around 9, and when I put him to bed then thats when he wakes up. But he also wakes up a lot in the middle of the night. So does the putting them to bed between 6-8 really work? and if so what time do they tend to wake up for the day?

i just read that it is a myth...the past two nights haylie has gone to bed later and has slept better so idk....every child is different. what works for one may not work for another. if your having issues maybe try it but if not then keep up what your doing

I have been having issues, I dont do CIO, but I just need more sleep each night. He wakes up 2-5 times a night, and the first time he wakes up I bring him to bed so he can feed a little and he only eats for a min, so I think its just comfort, but then he stays in bed the rest of the night, and I just cant sleep well with him right there, so last 2 nights I put him to bed earlier, but it hasnt made a difference...maybe Ill go feed him now and put him to bed, see how he does

It's supposed to help them sleep better and longer. It works for my LO. She usually goes down around 7:30 and wakes around 7 so that's almost 12 hours. She wakes some during the night, but it isn't anything major and we are working on it.

Aidan was growing through his 3 months growth spurt, but the last 2 nights he seems to be coming out of it. He went back to going to bed at 7:30pm and waking up at between 6:30a, and 7am, so 11+ hours.

thats good, I just cant get up that early. My work schedule can vary from me working at 11-5 or 5-11 or even sometimes I have to work until 2 in the morning, so getting up at 6-7 is just early, thats why I put him to bed late

Abbie's cutting her first tooth right now so her sleep is AWFUL atm, but the bedtime and the naps are helping a lot.

Well just because my LO wakes up at 7 doesn't mean yours will. And she wakes up at 7 and hangs out in bed with me but I still sleep until 8 something pretty much every morning.

my LO kinda does the same..i made a rule for myself not to bring her into the bed bc she would end up wanting to stay all night and fuss in her bed and wake up more...meaning less sleep for us both! so now i sit up nurse her and put her back in her bed. she usually wakes up 2x now for about 3-5 min

Maybe Ill try that tonight, actually sitting up to feed him. Normally I just lay on my side with him feeding, but then I fall asleep and dont put him back in bed. Though, tonight might be different. He usually took a nap around 6-8 sometime. and the last 2 days I made him skip it so I could put him to be a little earlier with him being a little bit more tired. But tonight, it was unavoidable. He fell asleep just after 7 and was still asleep, so I moved him from his chair in the livingroom to his playpen. Maybe he'll sleep better tonight...who knows

Naps actually help them sleep better though. When a baby is put to bed already well rested, rather than overtired and fussy and exhausted, they sleep better.

the naps are good, i wouldnt stop them. but not bringing her in our bed helpedSOOO much!! she wanted to stay in our bed and didnt sleep good at all alone, but i wouldnt sleep with ehr in our bed. so this way she gets comfort, a snack and then back to her bed   the first few nights of doing it kinda sucked but now i could do it in my sleep lol

This is gonna be long, but I just wanted to add, my 10 month old began crying it out a few months ago. It took her approximately a week of crying it out every now and then when she refused to sleep before she started sleeping through the night. Since then, she's slept 8-10 hours EVERY night and still takes 3 naps during the day. When she wakes in the morning and after each nap she takes, she plays in her crib and waits for me to come get her. When I walk in, she's happy, well-rested, and energetic. Since that week we started letting her cio, she's fallen asleep on her own every time she goes down without a whimper.

She's not "manipulative" or demanding of my attention unless she just wants to be hugged (I know the difference by now). She's extremely independent, but still very affectionate. She's also incredibly healthy, very intelligent, and pretty social.

My point is, every child is different and research can only predict so much about the affects your choices in parenting will have on your child both short and long term. As a mom I know the difference between a cry that's asking me to help her calm down and get settled, and a cry that's saying, "I wanna watch tv with you & dad and I don't feel like going to bed, come get me."

OP, doing cio is an extremely hard road whose pros and cons you need to weigh out, being that your child is an individual and not a statistic. Decide how long you're willing to let your child CIO, what kind of cry is telling you something is wrong, whether or not your decision is helping in about a week or two. Only you know what's best for your child. Good luck.
