If your child is getting upset to the point of VOMITING, its probably not right for your child. JMO.

There are other methods also. Let me see if I can find a link.

A friend of mine used the Ferber method. It worked well for her daughter, but it didn't work at all for mine. All children are different. . .

Like I said - it was the first time. How was I to know he was going to vomit? The minute I heard him cough I was in his room to check on him!

It's hard but you will get thru it. Have you read Dr. Marc Weissbluth Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child? He is the founder of the Sleep Disorders Center at Childrens hosp of Chicago. My LO was a terrible napper/sleeper and we used his method at 7 months. After the first nght i actually looked forward to the following nights as things were going "by the book." He has you look at the entire day of sleep so that the baby is more likely to go to sleep with less resistance. My neighbor gave me the book when she saw i was ready to lose my mind. I highly recommend it.
BTW, we absolutley could not do the routine of checking on her in intervals. She got progressively more upset each time. It was awful and it would have gone on for hours. I am 100% convinced that there was less crying and upset just allowing her to cry. It was 22 mins the first night of the Weissbluth method, 28 mins the second night and 10 the 3rd. From there it was less until finally, not a peep. We all love bedtime now. Hang in there. You are doing the right thing.

Great. dont worry about not sticking with it tonight. It's hard. i think the book will really help as you will read about other similar situations and how the parents worked thru it. also, Dr. W gives you LOTS of info about baby's sleep and popular theories about allowing babies to cry compared with not allowing them to cry.
The book covers up to 5 years old i think. I refer to it from time to time as their patterns change a bit and i want to know what to expect.
GL to you. You will be glad you did it after it's over. Your baby NEEDS sleep as does his mommy.

Maybe you could pat his back until he falls asleep? That works with Ella, she fusses for a minute and calms down as soon as I'm patting her until she falls asleep which is only a couple minutes. That may make it an easier transition into just leaving him in there. And probably easier on you too. If he is used to being rocked to sleep the crib is a new thing all togther from his view point. Good luck !

I have personally never tried the whole CIO thing. But, It's only your first night I'm sure it will get better! Maybe try inching into it a little bit instead of just walking out of the room. For the first couple of nights I would put him in his crib, and sit in his room rubbing his head or singing to him until he fell asleep. Then when he/she is used to falling asleep in his crib with out being rocked he wont have to "cry it out"..

Who needs their sleep, mom? We all wish we could sleep, but not at the expense of our LO's. Thats all I was saying.
