If your parent-in-law baby-sits... do you pay them?

ETA: MIL baby-sits... because she asked us if she could. I work 3 12-hour shifts a week, and I try to make it on the weekends so SO is home with our LO. When I can't, MIL baby-sits because she was very offended when she found out I was searching for a baby-sitter. We gave her a few dollars here and there because she hinted at it, and I felt obligated. Last week I went to pick our LO up and she said, "we're up to 7 days that I've watched Justin; you owe $140 so far"... WTF. Let me throw in, that 3 out of those 7 days were for less than an hour; just the time when I was going to work and SO was coming home.

Also have to throw in that my parents have driven 45 minutes to come here and watch our LO and absolutely REFUSE money. MIL will only do it at her house, on her terms.

They dont.

If they asked to babysit, I wouldnt pay. If we asked them to, we would.

They live 3 hours away, so anytime we go there, theyre always willing to watch her for a few hours.
they wouldnt accept any money from us anyways.

my sis in law (might as well be) keeps my LO and we dont pay her, but we did get her a cell in our name & pay that for her each month. she's a SAHM & loves keeping her & doesnt want to be paid

I'd be BROKE if I paid my parents or my in-laws to babysit!! lol

It's funny our parents and close friends have refused to take payment from us for watching Dom when we go out so we always have a free sitter.

If it were a daily thing I would definitely pay them.

If they asked then no but if we asked them then yea...we'd pay. That will never happen though. My son ended up outside in the middle of the street THREE TIMES under my MIL supervision. Now I'll just pay to send them pictures! haha

Dh's mom does and we do not pay her. She's her grand daughter so she is happy to get to spend time with her. If she babysat like daily..like a job then we would try to pay her but she probably wouldn't accept it anyways, My mom watches her ALL the time and she would never take any money from me. My mom would love to quit her job and keep her all day everyday..lol

My parents babysit and we don't pay them. They wouldn't accept any money for watching their grandchild.

My IL's do not and will not baby sit.


My mom and sister do baby sit and we don't pay them. My mom wouldn't accept it. Although we do buy my sister food for payment. haha.

My MIL BEGS to have Brooklyn. Usually i let her stay over night once in a while, and usually when i go to pick her up, she has bought Brooklyn (or me) stuff. She would kick my ass if i tried to pay her.
But then again, i've read alot of MIL posts on here, and it seems like mine is ALOT different from the BG MILs

I'm in shock this woman has two living adults that she gave birth to and took care of as a single mom! Luckily she lives 6 hours away!

hahaha If it weren't for my husband I'd be in jail and she'd be in a cast. The road was right niext to a major highway in a BIG city! It's bumper to bumper 24/7
