So I have a 2 1/2 year old and he thinks he is IN CHARGE....KING OF THE HOUSE and all that jazzz....well, he is TERRIBLE about going to bed at night, he runs out of his room at least 20-30 times a night before finally going to sleep, then in the morning is up at the crack of dawn and waking up his newborn brother. So I installed one of those metal baby gates on his doorframe and he about lost his mind, went on strike and threw toys, kicked walls, screamed bloody murder and took his pjs off and is now sleeping naked in bed....*i turned up my heater so he wont freeze * But i was just curious if anyone else has a child like this and has had to do this to them....i feel bad cuz i want him to understand that bedtime is bedtime but he just WONT, and i feel like the bad guy....its better than what people have told me which is lock him in his room, which i will NOT do for security reason but IS IT MEAN to put a gate up and listen to him scream?

If that is what you have to resort to then so be it, but have you tried to make sure you have a very predictable bed time routine? Do you go in and read to him and make sure he's all tucked in? Maybe you could try scratching his back until he is about ready to fall asleep....

Not sure what you have tried already, but those are my suggestions

I totally agree with you though......do NOT lock him in his room....that is terrible that people would suggest that

he has had the EXACT same bedtime routine since he was 2 mths old.....we already have started the same bedtime routine for our 6 week old.....we do books, we do lotion and backrubs, we DO IT ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL this kid is tough, always has been, just hoping the baby grows up a bit easier!

He's a strong willed little shit huh?

I know how difficult strong willed children are......my daughter is impossible sometimes! I allow my kids to sleep in my room if they need to, but I understand that it's not for all parents, so I won't really suggest it to ya lol!

Good luck, and no, I don't think it's horrible to use the gait

he is as strong willed as they come....so sweet too but OH MY GOD has an attitude....no patience and has become a bit aggressive to us. he doesnt listen NEVER HAS....i have to literally force him to clean up his messes, its his way or the highway, i never thought i would have that hard child, but i do so I guess god figured i could handle it....but sometimes i just want to cave in and let him have what he wants.

I know the feeling.....both of my older children are like that......it gets better as they get older. DON'T give in though.....if you do that, it will only get worse! Continue to be consistent and out will him. You have to be stronger!!

Hang in there, he will get the picture sooner or later
