I'm going to copy what I just wrote in another post:

There are tests you can take to determine ovulation though I don't know much about them, I didn't do that and I've heard they can get expensive (though I would have done that if it took a long time to get pregnant).

Basel Body Temperature (BBT): In the morning BEFORE you get out of bed, take your temperature (and write it down each day). It will jump up when you ovulate and stay elevated until you get your period (or there about). It will stay elevated if you are pregnant.

One problem with BBT is once your temperature goes up it's pretty much too late to have sex, or this is my understanding. Sperm can live for 3 - 5 days waiting for an egg and the egg only is available for insemination for 12 - 24 hours (or is it up to 48 hours?), so make sure you're having sex before you ovulate or just after .

Cervical Mucus:
When your discharge resembles raw egg whites (stretchy mucus), it's time to have sex. This is the best environment for the sperm to make it up to wait for the egg that will be released soon.

Cervical Position:
I didn't do this and don't know a lot about it (I was too chicken to touch my cervix  ).

Other ways (I'm planning to start trying in a couple of months):
I also plan to pay attention to my body in other ways (noticing when my husband smells the best to me after he's worked out, when I feel like dressing with more skin showing, etc ). I'll also keep an eye on the calendar to have some idea of when I might need to have sex.

Or you could just have a lot of sex if you have the time and desire . I've read that every second day is best, but have fun with it, try not to make it a chore.

It's a good idea to start on this now, it's a lot easier if you have an idea of when you ovulate (though most women have the occasional cycle that they don't release an egg or that they ovulate twice in the cycle).

Good luck  .

That's a good idea  .

Also, once you start trying, live your life as though you are pregnant (don't drink, smoke or do other drugs, don't get xrays or handle dangerous material, etc), at least not until you get your period and know you won't get to try again for a week or two  .

You may also want to get a physical to make sure you're in optimal health.

That's what I was going to suggest, too. My daughter was a surprise so I didn't really get to prepare my body. I lucked out and had a smooth, healthy pregnancy. Before we started TTC I had a pre-conception physical just to make sure I didn't have anything going on.

Good luck, OP!
