Online College!?

posted 7th Nov
long story short; i dropped out of college after failing my first semester....i HATE having a set time to go to class...i prefer to do things at my own pace.
now 2 years & a baby later i am wanting to go back to school and get a degree!

i need some advice from some people who know more about online schooling than i do!

1. where do i even begin to look for a good online college?
2. since i am a single mother i can get a better school loan correct?
3. for those who work and do online schooling....do you find it hard to work, be a mom, and study?
4. i think i want to do 2-3 classes a semester for now; is that a lot to handle?

school loans are not based on being a single mother, pell grants are based on income

Just speaking from experience with my school....
It was hard enough doing one class a month online. I'm not sure how other online schools do it, but from what I've seen from my school, my mother's school, and my little sister's school...
You only get one class a month.

Definitely find a school that is accredited! You want a degree that counts!

single mom doesn't really matter, but sorta does. You fill out the FAFSA, but having a single income and a dependant will factor in.

Tips... before jumping into any of the advertized "online" schools, contact your local colleges. Many community colleges offer many classes online now, and it's much cheaper that way. Pheonix is rediculously expensive.

I was in school, worked, and had 3 kids under 3 at one point. (when I started the nursing program) It's hard. But, manageable. You REALLY have to manage your time wisely. Schedule study time and class time like you would if you had to go to class. Make it a priority. Also, online classes don't keep on top of you. If you don't keep up, you'll end up trying to learn 9 chapters of material the night before an exam. (learned my lesson quick on that one lol)

You have to be super organized and a hard worker- but you CAN do it, and will be a better parent/provider.

What are you thinking of going for?

It depends if its private or public, private schools like university of phonix do 1 class a month or every 6 weeks something like that, but you can do to a community college or state school and its like a regular college semester ....if you need more info ask away i work at a private college

Online school sucks. When your at home it's hard to find time to take care of baby and do school work. If you can it's much easier to have child care and be totally focused in a school setting. it sucks, but that's life! hah

That's how our schools did it. My moms was 6 weeks for one course.
Her and my sister never did final exams though...and I have.
It just depends on the school you go to.

the school I went to had normal semesters. Also, keep in mind, there are a minimum of credits required for most financial aid. (I think it's 6 credits, which is usually 2 classes) When registering, talk to the guidance counselor and explain you're a single mom. I wasn't single, but with 3 kids and working, they always advised me on which classes to take together so I didn't have 2 really rough ones at the same time.

and no social life, I was married and rarely saw my husband.

Steer clear from Charter College. They are very unprofessional and not on things like they should be.
