High risk pregnancies?

Has anyone ever gone to a perinatologist for their high risk pregnancy?
I have 4 1/2 weeks until my c-section and I am just now being referred to one for thyroid/heart issues. I don't see him until Tuesday so I am wondering what to expect. The only thing I really know is the medication I'm on can cause IUGR so they will be watching the baby's growth until delivery.
Do you normally see them concurrent with an OB or just start going to them? How often usually? Any info is appreciated.

I might get sent to one in my 2nd trimester due to my thyroid. I know that doesn't answer your question, I'm sorry.
what type of thyroid condition do you have? Hypo or hyper?

I was sent to one. They labeled me high risk in my 4th month when they finally remembered I had type 2 diabeties. I saw the high risk doctor once a month and they did a full scan.

Hmm... I'm thinking I might be seen more then that since I'm so close to delivery... otherwise I'd only see him once before I have her lol.

It just got diagnosed in pregnancy. It has caused me rapid heartrate, dizziness, headaches, insomnia, and poor weight gain in the 3rd trimester.  

I saw both, reg and peri.

I saw a peri throughout the majority of my pregnancy. I got alot of ultrasounds, blood tests, and growth scans of the baby. They are more proactive about preventing the worse from happening. I transferred my care to a regular OB though because my peri would not let me vbac...
