getting in shape

posted 7th Nov
ladies, I need some advice
I don't need to lose weight, I suppose I'd like to tone up thighs, stomach etc but my main concern is being fit... I want to improve endurance, flexibility and general heart health. I've never been a runner, I think I don't know how to run properly lol but I wouldn't mind starting if I could figure it out.

I've been reading up on 30 Day Shred and it's so cheap I think I am gonna order to get me started on a plan... other than that I am signed up at YMCA but I have no idea where to start in there. Do I just go in a jump on a treadmill? What equipment should I buy for home, like weights for the 30 Day Shred? Any other tips on living an active lifestyle?
I'm also concerned about being able to do some work out moves... my body just feels really stiff and I lack strength, I can't do a push up or anything... will this improve if I keep trying?

Also I don't even know what to wear to work out :/ I need some shoes and suggestions for clothes so I don't look totally silly if I decide to stop by the Y ;)

yoga will help you with all of the things you want to improve, I would start there. lifting smaller amounts of weight will tone your muscles (think repetition not bulk). It's great you signed up at the Y. Just find something there you like to do! If it was me, I would go for an adult swim time, lap swim time, or something, swimming is really good for your endurance. I personally don't like running so that's where I would start. But find something you like!

Don't worry about doing certain moves, or how you look, you can't just straight up jump into it being a fitness guru! It will come with time, a month or two and you'll look pro!

As for clothes, I would get two pair of cotton pants, a cute pair of those new reeboks that tone your butt and legs, a couple of sports bras, and just some big, old t-shirts you don't care about. I bet no one will be worried about how you look!

thanks so much, that makes me feel better. I know a lot of people at gyms aren't actually in shape so idk why I worry, the membership was free since I am a university student so I just need to get out there. I was definitely looking at the yoga classes but I didn't think I'd be able to do any of the moves, or anything close   lol I guess I just need to get out there and try, how bad could it be...

it won't be bad at all! And everyone starts somewhere, people will understand. You can find lots of yoga videos online to, I think hulu might have some, if you want to practice, or google some basic yoga moves, which can give you some tips if you're really self conscious, but trust me, everyone will understand. You should have seen me at my old gym in the step aerobics class. I was constantly tripping on myself at first, but no one ever said anything! I just had to laugh at myself and stand in the back! oh, and kickboxing is another really good method of toning your muscles without adding bulk! I love kickboxing, can't wait to start again!
