Choking on spit up?
posted 7th Nov
So my son is almost a month old now, and every now and then he'll start choking when i burp him, or sometimes even when he's sitting or laying down.. I'm really scared when it happens.. I sit him up and it usually takes a second but it stops.. but he coughs really loud and his face gets beat red and he looks so scared.. I feel like crying my eyes out after each time that happens.. Which is why i don't get much sleep.. and neither does daddy.. We're so terrified.. Is this normal?? Did anyone else experience this? I've made a doc appt.. My mom said it could be reflux.. I sit him up 1/2 hour after each feeding and i'm giving him 2 1/2 ounces..

my baby had something similar, which is why she no longer sleeps on her back. she sleeps on her side. she is 4 months now, and it isn't completely gone, but it's much better. talk to you pedi about it to get some reassurance.

My daughter has reflux and does this. Not sure if its cause of the reflux though. Elevate the head of his bed, thats what we do to Teagan's. About 6-8 inches. She sleeps in her PnP and we just put a blanket under the matress part. She slept on her side until she learned to roll over, so she sleeps on her back now.

I know how scarred you are! My son did the same thing! I took him to the doc several times to try to figure it out. It was Acid Reflux. They first put him on one med., and it worked for a while then all the sudden it came back. So I took him back to the doctor and they uped how much I was supposed to give him. It worked for a while then all the sudden it came back. So I took him back to the doctor and they gave me a new medicine to try and it has worked really well. He does not get it anymore. Now that he is eating baby food I dont even give it to him except every now and then when he spits up acid. They always told me to let him sleep upright. Sometimes I would let him sleep in his carseat, and other time I would but him in his crib with a wedge thing under his mattress. Hope this helps

My son did that and inhaled it.....he stopped breathing but the paramedics instructed me what to do over the phone. Scariest moment of my life. He is ok now but it is still something I worry about.
