Drying my milk up

posted 7th Nov
Chase turned one on 10-21 and I decided I wanted to stop BF before xmas. Well I have had Chase down to one feeding at bedtime for several weeks now and two nights ago he wasn't freaking out for it and went to bed without having to nurse. And again last pm he went to bed without needing or wanting it again. So now only one of my boobs is hurting the other is swollen but not bad. How long will it take and what can I do not to stimulate more milk.

What really? I remember when I BF my daughter I was unable to so only BF for 12 weeks or so, but the fullness went away, but I did leak for about a year.

I just want to know how long are they really swollen, ouch! LOL!

Well I wore a sports bra to bed and they didn't hurt as much. How long did it take you?

Like a week or so. It'll probably take you a bit longer, just because stopping completely won't be a very big change from your usual oncea day. So maybe 2 weeks for you. Wrap your self with ace bandages super tight. It sucks, but it helps.

If you wrep them super tight after you empty them completely, there will be no room for them to fill back up. It hurts, but it is worth it.

You can get meds from your doc to dry your milk up, if that helps

I don't think they do that here anymore they used to though. Well I think... but I really don't have much milk left since I was only nursing once a day for several weeks.

You just have to stop totally. Put ice packs in your bra to help the pain, and take some tylonel, I had the worst case of mastitis in both breasts when I weaned Gage, it was horrible, I had fever and all. Also, cabbage leaves help, IDK why, it is a myth, but the coldness and stuff. Put some pads in and wear a sports bra. Hope it goes ok for you!

actually it's not a myth - it has to do with the sulphur compounds in cabbage.
It works.

Cabbage leaves do work. They smell pretty gross, cooking in your bra... but they work.
