Potty Advice?

My inlaws are keen on buying Caleb a potty. I unfortunately have no idea what exactly to get. I hadnt even thought about potty training yet. He's only one!
Ok so maybe I contemplate it when hes had a real stinky poop but other than that I have NO IDEA where to start, how to start, what kind of potty.

So any ladies willing to dish out some advice? I'm not planning to start any time soon. Thought I'd educate myself a bit on the subject.

IDK but my 6 yo hated going on the big potty! We had him one that went on the big potty and he hated it, he was so afraid of it... he would never go. then we got him this one and he was all about sitting on the potty!

lol aw that's so cute! I wanted to get one that does both so eventually he'll go potty on the big one. Maybe seeing something familiar will make him less afraid of the big potty. Although at this stage my son loves throwing things in the toilet and flushing it down

I HATE that one, the seat is so hard and leaves marks on my l/o's bum.

Anyways, I'd say just let it be a part of the furniture for awhile, let him play with it and sit on it. We bought one at 9 months and by 12 months she was running to it when her diaper came off. It's been a breeze every since and I not once even tried to train her.

We got my daughter a regular potty ($15) with no bells or whistles that looks just like a toilet. We had one of those fancy spancy ones that looked like a throne fit for a queen and she thought it was a nice chair, not a potty..lol. She would not pee or anything in the fancy one - i eventually sold it on craigslist.
