Urinary Catheter

posted 6th Nov
For those of you that had one, what was your experience like? They put them in after the epi from what I understand, so I would assume there's no pain for it to go in. I've heard it's mostly a relief to have it removed, is that true too?

For some reason the whole idea of something shoved up the pee hole is really scaring me... lol

I didn't get one & I had the epidural! My mom stuck the bedpan underneath me if I had to pee, I was so thankful for that, I didn't want a catheter.

ETA - my epi was not a high dosage & I did not have a button to push for more meds like a lot of people get. It also wore off when I was at 8 or 9 cm & I got it around 6cm so it was completely pointless.

watching, IMO that's the scariest part of labor

EDIT: my cousin had one with her C-section, and they put it in before the epi and she said that it was the most painful part

I got one after I gave birth because I couldn't pee myself (had the epi)
From what I remember it really stung going up there, and out..... but it was quick
dont be scared though

I couldnt feel it being put in or taken out. I didnt feel it again when they had to put it in after the baby either...

I think if you have the Epi... you'll be okay.

I didn't notice them putting it in or out the first time and then they had to put it back in for a c-section..didn't feel that either and when they took it out the next day it was just like a relief feeling....but then i felt like i was peeing like an elephant. the flow was outragious(sp?)

I also had an epidural.

I got my self all worked up and prepared for the pain. And it was nothing i honestly didn't feel it. Same for them taking it out.

I had one put in before the epi and it was the most uncomfortable thing in the world. The only reason they put it in before was because they were trying to stop my contractions and hadn't anticipating her coming that day but she did and yes getting it removed was such a relief!!

I had, had one in a few days before when I was admitted because of contractions and do you know how weird it is to not have to get up to pee at all for 2 days....So weird lmao sorry that was a bit tmi haha

Lol no worries. I'm pretty excited about not having to get up to pee though... that will be nice. It's a very painful process for me at this point...

I had a c-section. & The catheter was the very first thing they put in. It was very very uncomfortable going in, & very uncomfortable up until I got the spinal block for my c-sec. It was a relief coming out. I hated it.
