Best Children's Neurology
posted 6th Nov
I googled "best children's hospitals" and then clicked specialties for neurology and I came up with Children's Hospital in Boston.......
for any mom's that have had a kid with seizures, which hospital did you go to and were you satisfied?
LO is now 4 months and been having seizure for almost 2 weeks straight...petiet mal seizures...lasting for 10-30 seconds....mild jerking, head and eyes fixate to the right...he's been on Phenobarbitol, Dilantin, Keppra and now they've nixed the Phenobarb and are giving him Klonopin....the seizures aren't really responding to anything...ALL tests have came back clear...so his doctor wants to send us on...we're at WVUH now at the Children's Hospital part...and she wants us to go to either Pittsburgh or Cleveland...opinions please...I'm at a loss, Momma's.............She doesn't want to push anymore drugs because babies his age are USUSALLY controlled with ONE medication and he's been on FOUR...THREE at a time. fml.....I just want him better...
your hospital? and expierence?? (sorry for typos, in a hurry, at the hospital now...kinda upset)

I have not had my babies yet, but I can be a bit of help!! I was hospitalized last year for a good 3 months, right around this time of the year actually, and it took them forever to figure out what was wrong. But I had Viral or Vestibular Neuritis. It was a very scary, especially not knowing what was wrong for quite a while. I had mini seizures, my eyes would roll back into my head, my eyes were extremely dialated, it was difficult for me to sit up because everything would become blury, and I could not stand or walk. At one point the whole right side of my body was paralyzed. They also found at the time that I have uneven amounts of CFS (spinal fluid) in my brain. Basically, when my heart beats, blood should normally rush into the brain and force CSF out and into the spine area, however, when my heart beats minimal CSF is forced out into my spine area from the blood.
Anyways, I was transferred from hospital to hospital, and saw several different neurologists. I was originally rushed by ambulance from my hospital near us to University or Michigan's hospital and I was seen by two neurologists while there. After three different diagnosis (sp?) my parents asked for some other referrals. I was then taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Boston because of the specialty in neurology. Within a matter of 2 weeks of being at the Boston Hospital, they had run several tests, I had been seen by several doctors and was given a clear diagnosis and was put on the correct medication. I have yet to have another episode since I have been on the medication given to me at the Boston Hospital. I was just back there a few weeks ago, as they have asked to see me once a year for my yearly check up and what not.
My parents and myself were very pleased with the care I recieved at CHB. The doctors explained everything to us step by step of what they were doing, what they were thinking and what they planned to do. Very thorough and I know that it brought great comfort to my parents.
If you want to talk about Children's Hosptial Boston you can PM me.. Hope this helped.

I don't know but if you come to Cleveland and have questions about the town (where to eat, stay, etc.) I might be able to help. PM if you need. Good luck!

I haven't had a child w/ neurological problems, but the children's hospitals hereare awesome. There is Riley Hospital for Children and then there is the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital of St. Vincent. They are both wonderful. Ask your doc about them?

I would say your doctor is correct. Boston is the best for neurology from what I can find. Good luck!

Children's in Boston really is the best, in most specialties. My daughter was there a few times for an xray, a ct scan, and an ER visit. There's a Ronald McDonald House you and your family can stay in while your little one is in the hospital if you dont want to pay for hotel rooms too.

Thanks everyone, we're waiting for a few more results and if they cannot tell us anything, we'll probably head off to Boston....It's so scary, but...it's something that NEEDS to be controlled & figured out...thanks again ladies

Hi there,
My daughter is 4 years old and has had a seizure disorder since she was 2 months. We go to All Children's Hospital in St. Pete. I Remember when she was that small, they had her on soo many medications that she could barley wake up to eat. it took us months until we got the right combo of medications to stop her seizures.. and she still has some from time to time. Its hard when they are small because there are only so many medications that babies can take. There is also a diet that is out there to stop seizures.. but i mean.. how much of a diet can we put babies on right? AND when all else fails.. there is surgery. Just remember this.. Seizures are scary to look at.. but in most cases harmless and the child doesn't ever remember doing it. I hope this kind of helps...
