I have a mental illness I believe went undiagnosed for most of my childhood.

Hopefully my children don't.   If I can be of any help let me know.

I just want to talk to someone that knows how I feel and what I'm going through. It's been a really hard day

Chandler has just been so horrible today. His meds weren't working so they switched his meds and the new med will take 3 days to 2 weeks to work. I don't know how I'm going to do it. He was so mean and inappropriate.

I understand how you feel. My son has ADHD. We just went to the pedi today for an increase in his meds. But while we were in the office waiting he told me that I am a mean mommy and that he hates me. Hopefully his med increase will help with this.

I can handle that kind of stuff, I'm used to it. He gets like that when his meds are wearing off in the evening. Today he was completely psychotic.

Thats the same problem that we were having. His teacher says he is great all day in school but as soon as he gets home he is off the wall. This is not the first time he has said this to me. Last time I broke down crying and my husband came in from work and was not happy about it. Right now they have him on Focalin. The pedi doubled his dosage so tomorrow will be the first day on it.
What kinds of things is your son doing?

His meds haven't been working this week. The other day he had to pull 2 behaviour cards within the first 2 hours of school. When his meds aren't working he's usually worse at school.

I don't really want to get into everything he was doing, there's to many to list. For hours he attacked me. Full force punching, kicking, smacking, biting, throwing stuff, being innapropriate, etc... I couldn't even let him out of my sight to go pee. He has horrible to the other boys. My oldest son went to stay the night with my sister because Chandler was being so mean.

wow, I have never had to deal with that. What meds do they have him on? Does he see just a regular pedi or does he have someone with mental health?
If you don't want to talk a lot in a thread I understand. You can PM me or I use YIM if you want to talk privately.

I'm sorry that sounds rough. I know this may sound strange but I used to work at a camp and be a counselor to about 30 girls and boys. The parents with the autistic children told me that eliminating milk from their diet helped tremendously. And other parents that had children that just had a low temperament tried it just out of desperation and one of them that was consistent told me it worked for her, too! And I was glad because that girl bit me on numerous occasions! LOL

I was a horrible child, myself. My mom used to give me a "bear hug" and that used to piss me off MORE and they thought I had Asbergers.... It was a mess and my mom deserved an award (and you do too because that's tough!!). I am pretty sure that if I was born now, they'd put me on meds. They didn't give children meds back then.... as much as my mom begged and begged.... lol

He sees a psychiatrist and his regular dr also. We had an emergency meeting with the psychiatrist today to get his meds changed. Now he's on Risperdal and then clonidine at night as needed. He's been on the clonidine for years now, except for a short amount of time. We were suppose to try tonight without the clonidine since the risperdal is suppose to make him tired. She said that if he wasn't asleep by 9 or 10 to give him the clonidine. I gave him the clonidine so at least he's sleeping now. I really hope the risperdal works. I hate med changes. They freak me out. The reason Chandler is on the clonidine is because when he doesn't take it he will literally not sleep for 2-3 days at a time, then he will sleep for half a night, and do it again.

Milk is our lifesaver. Some of the meds make him not want to eat. He literally acts like I'm the devil for making him eat. He once told me that he wished he would die so that he didn't ever have to eat again. I offer to make whatever he wants, and he'll just say he doesn't want to eat. He's not hungry, he hates eating. blah blah blah. Sometimes we have to give him the Carnation breakfasts in milk just so he gets nutrition. His regular dr. always says that as long as he's not loosing weight he's fine, but I'm always worried. The last med (adderall) made him really hungry which I was so thankful for. The med before that (metadate) we had to force him to eat. Like take priveledges away if he refused. He's so small. He only weighs 39 lbs. At least he's gained a lb since we started giving him the drinks. Before that he hadn't gained any weight in a year. I feel like I'm always hounding him asking him if he's hungry.
