Gallstones

posted 6th Nov
So for the second time in 2 weeks I ended up in the ER due to severe pain in my back, right side and ribs. The first time, the doctor blamed it on an upset stomach and I was too tired to argue and just let it go. Last night however, I knew as soon as it started that it was the same exact thing which in no way was an upset stomach. I called my doctors office and they had my midwife call me back who told me to go to the hospital and get an ultrasound on my gallbladder. So I did and they found I have 8 gallstones. They're smaller so they can pass without getting stuck, they said the lining of my gallbladder is fine and told me to take Tylenol for the pain and drink lots of fluid and sent me home.

Here's my problem... My entire right side, back and front (everything on the right side) is in so much pain and nothing is helping. I can't sit, I can't stand, I can't lay down. The worst part is around my right shoulder blade. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem while pregnant. (I'm 22 1/5 weeks) And what you did if anything that helped relieve this pain. It's so constant it's making me sick to my stomach and I don't care if it's only temporary relief... I just need something.

I wasnt prego when that was happening but I had to have my gallbladder removed a month ago. SEVERE back pains. Id rather go through labor again! My husband even told me I handled labor better than I handled gallbladder pain. They'll probably take yours out soon enough.

Sorry for your pain, Momma!!! Fortunately I wasn't pregnant when I had my gall bladder attacks, because I know how awful they are! I woke up thinking I was having a heart attack!! Anyway---I'm suprised they didn't give you darvoset[sp?] They gave it to me while preggers for kidney stones!
But anyway-- a way to prevent future attacks is to watch what you are eating, and avoid them! Once I stopped eating greasy foods the attacks stopped! But still had to have it removed from it being so inflammed.   Did they say anything about having it removed?

Thank you ladies.

They didn't say anything about it being removed. But when I called my GP she set me up with an appointment to see the surgeon and discuss what my options are on Monday. I keep thinking that labor can't be this bad, SO doesn't believe me and thinks I'm not going to make it through labor. I don't know... If labor is worse than this, I might just pass out from all the pain! And the only thing they told me was safe to take was Tylenol. Hopefully they'll have more answers for me Monday. I just wish I could get rid of this pain until then.

I know that horrible pain too!!!! I had 15 of them in my instestine.....after your LO is born, you may need surgery to remove them....
