pssh...tell the nurse to fuck off

If the doc says s/he isn't comfy in his/her own skills, then seek a diff doc.

My 34 weeker never saw a specialist "just b/c"

Depends on if he has any issues due to his prematurity. he wasn't that early. my son was 11 weeks early and once he got out of the hospital he saw a regular pedi. They have 'intervention' checkups available to watch the growth and progression of your preemie. He should be fine with a regular pedi.

Neonatologists do not do well child visits. They see neonates. What I did is get a referral from my neonatologist for a pediatrician who was good/familiar with premature babies and their potential complications. And really, at 34 and 5, your child probably doesn't need to see any specialists at all. Your nurse kind of sounds like an idiot.

I would continue to go to your pediatrician that your daughter goes to. It is always nice to have the same Dr. that knows your family and your kids. If your Dr. says that your son should be referred some where else then you might consider it. My daughter was 5 weeks early and it has helped us knowing that our Dr. already knows our family history and is more inclined to help us better if any thing where to come up and we had to go in for a visit. She is now 6 months with very little problems.

My little girl was born at 34 weeks and 1 day and she sees a family doctor. I was going to get a ped. but she's great.
