does post partum depression happen right after giving birth?

no, it is generally called the "baby blues" for the first two weeks after giving birth. Its your hormones going crazy and evening back out, etc. After two weeks, though, it is considered depression.

I think it can happen anytime afterward.

I developed PPd while i was still pregnant... it just got worse after i had my baby.
