re: Preparing for Baby...what should I have?

posted 29th Aug
For me its a swing, a paci, and a breast pump.
if your planning on breastfeeding a paci and a pump helps out a lot...when you go out to the dr, store, eat out, any where that way you could pump milk and give it to him while ur out or in the car since you cant take him out of the car seat

Be sure to get an infant thermometer. you quickly rub across the forehead and it takes the temperature. They come in handy when you think your little one may have a fever. I love the fact that its not invasive. They also have the pacifier thermometers. You can find them at walmart, target, and even rite aid.

the angel monitor! I loved mine! I was a nervous wreck and kept it on at all times. One night I picked him up for a feeding and I wasn unusually tired forgot to turn off the monitor and heard the alarm and freaked out because I couldn't find my baby...that was in my arms haha. that monitor was a lifesave!

With my first baby I thought I had to have every baby gadget on the market  ) I bought the wipe warmer, the diaper organizer, ect. With my second I never started her with warm wipes so she didn't know any different. I also found that decorative baskets on the shelves of my changing table worked better for keeping things organized.

As far as must have baby gear goes...a good swing that swing side to side and front to back, a space saving high chair (unless you have a huge kitchen/dining room to accomadate a huge high chair), an excersaucer/activity center, a bopy pillow, bopy bouncy seat.

For nursing...a big nursing cover, medela pump in style breast pump, lansinoh, lots of extra burp clothes.

other than the necessities, a BUMBO!! my son LOVED it. they can start sitting in one when they are pretty young, i want to say connor was about 3 months. it helps them sit up, and keeps them much happier than lying down. I also agree with the exersaucer, or a jumperoo. He could have jumped for hours in it if i would've let him. For now a swing is an absolute need. It is a good idea to buy things that will grow with the baby. With my first I thought I needed everything. You dont. haha.

I never used a wipes warmer, like the other lady posted, once they get used to something, they wont let you do it any other way. Its just one more preventable habit to prevent. Hold it in your hands for a second so its not freezing cold and your done.

If your breastfeeding you will need pads, DEFINTIELY a breast pump, even if its just a cheap hand pump, its better than nothing.

Quoting JenRoyce:“ Okay ladies. Since this is always a topic seen frequently....share what are some must have items for your new bundle!”

My fav items are a portable crib (bassinet) for your bed side, a front carrier so you can have your fussy baby close but your arms free to do the dishes ha ha, plenty of extra Soothie Pacifiers (they always seem to get lost) Baby ALL detergent (smells wayyy better than dreft and 1/2 the price) always a hidden stash of diapers for when you think you ran out!, A glider WITH the ottomanbecause its soothing for the baby and your tired self!!
