i've never used a wipes warmer and this is my 3rd. from what i've heard though they can actually cause germs to grow and multiply. also as someone else says the baby will not like the cold ones when you have no choice but to use them.

I kinda wish I'd had a wipes warmer with my son. He would scream and cry when I wiped with cold ones. I was at a friends and she had a warmer so I grabbed one when i was changing him. He didn't scream. I think I'm gonna get one with my daughter.

My sister has one and it takes all the moisture out of them so i wouldnt suggest this unless you want dry wipes

I think huggies are better than any other brands

My neice had a diaper genie and it was a complete waste of money. You could simply use a plastic bag to dispose dirty diapers. The refill bags for the diaper genie tends to add up. The smell didnt always stay in.

I wouldn't buy a bunch of diapers and wipes and formula until the baby gets here. With my first, I got a bunch of huggies, and turns out, she couldn't wear them good, they leaked, she had to have pampers until 6 months (I tried every brand too)

Formula, you don't know what kind they will tolerate. With my daughter, she had to have the premixed liquid and not powder because she projectiled vomited.

They will give you free diapers and formula at the hosp if you don't breast feed.

You dont need to get alot of toys and swings and stuff like that just yet. Your main concern with a newborn is plenty of onsies, socks, little hand mittens (so they dont scratch their little faces), receiving blankets, wash clothes, and a baby positioner for the crib ( its so it doesnt roll over on its face an sufficate. And of course a car seat! My husband and I have started buying some diapers as well however, just remember people think that they need to buy expensive brand diapers for their kids but when a baby is so young you will be changing that diaper about every hour maybe 2 at the most. And a newborn is not going to be crawling around and really doing much of anything besides eating, sleeping and going potty. The fun stuff you can get later if you're not wanting to spend a bunch of money right now and just let it sit there waiting to be used. Just my advice!

Actually if you go to walmart.com and start a registry, they have a checklist. It comes in handy

wipe warmers are major germ collectors. instead they recommend warm washcloths!

A cradle swing! My second child had colic and this swing was such a big help in soothing her and always put my kids to sleep when I couldn't. It kinda mimics the motion in the womb.

Do you think that bottle warmers are worth buying?

I admitt my baby is not born yet and I'd listen more to those who have kids already but I love 3 in 1 items like a playppen bassinet and changing table in one with music and wombs sounds plus mine has a travel bag. Also I just got a summer tub and spa that grows from infant to when you don't need the tub any more you use the spa and shower head part. I wanted a low light for night time changes and I found a wipe warmer with a glow light on it. Anything that stimulates will put your baby more in the mode of waking up and waking you up and a wet cold wipe would wake anyone up.... Also the ergo carrier takes your baby from infant to toddler and you can wear it on your side front or back and you can breastfeed in modesty because it has a cover/hood attached to it. Despite these finds being a first time mom is so overwhelming I wigged out in Babies R Us yesteday. I'm kinda maxed out so I 've been looking on craigslist for the last couple things I want like a petunia pickle diaper bag and a douple madela breast pump but I don't want to pay full price. I think its better to buy quality and funtion lightly used then something cheap but new one more thing don't get a crib at babies r us they are cheap and wont last

I got one and it does warm up the milk a little faster than running hot water over the bottle. You'll do fine without one...but there are some bottle warmers that have a little basket attachment and you can sterilize nipples and pacifiers. If you get one, I recommend the Munchkin Deluxe Bottle and Food Warmer (BPA Free).
They're $19.88 at Walmart and about $22 at Target (I got mine at Target with a giftcard I received)

Quoting tashnie:“ what about diaper pails?”

I'm doing just great with out one. Personally, diaper pails are not really a "must have baby item", and the refills range from $9 and up. What I do is buy cheap sandwich plastic bags ($4 100pk.), and everytime I change my son I stick his used wipes in the dirty diaper then roll up the dirty diaper and stick it in the plastic bag and toss it in the waste basket. It's cheaper and almost the same thing.
