re: Preparing for Baby...what should I have?

My son is due in 12 days and im having the same problem making sure I have EVERYTHING I need.... but i know the swing is a lifesaver because ive taken care of newborns and babies my whole life... My best friend gave me the glider thing where it just slides back and forth and i can turn the seat so it goes head to toe and also side to side it plays music and can go "fast" or slower. I love infant carriers i have a front one and a sling. Im getting a bouncy seat because from experience those work wonders too.....
anything else that i might need let me know. ive got some diapers and plenty of formula since ill only be breastfeeding at the hospital.... clothes for miles. hahah.... some other essentials.???

What should i get first?

As this is our second child (our son is 2), I hope that this child actually likes the Pack N Play (our son did not). I will need to get a new booster/high chair for another dining chair, since our son still sits in his booster. Our bassinet will need to be emptied so the baby can sleep next to our bed (I intend to nurse this baby too). I wonder about the benefits of a wipes warmer. The reason is: when you are out and about, you are going to take out a cold wipe from the package/container and clean that rear end. No warmer, unless you plug it into your cigarette lighter in the car. I am selling off some of the things I thought I "had to have" with our son and I already have a Ergo Baby Carrier. I just need to get the infant insert for it. Our older son will be getting a new car seat. I am saving up now for a Britax for him.

My mom got me a wipe warmer and i never ended up using it. We didnt have enough sockets in the babys room. But he did fine w/ it, the wipes arent that cold, they are room temp! If you want them to be warmer you can always leave them out by a window where the sun can warm them.

Someone asked about what to get first:
Cloth diapers! They are so useful for so many things, even if all that goes on their bottom is disposable diapers. They make excellent burp cloths. They are great for covering up your lap in a pinch. They are great for wiping up all kinds of things. Easy to clean. Not so expensive that you cry if they get stained. I got two packs at Target. I would skip the pacifier unless you are sure your baby wants one. My son HATED them. I asked the nurses not to give him one, but they offered him one anyhow. He threw it out of his bed. YEAH!!!!! He knows. Never sucked his thumb either. What a smart baby! Plenty of soft blankets. I take one with me even now, two years later when we go out shopping. Some stores are FREEZING. Some stores are WARM. It is best to have it and not need it rather than the alternative.

I nursed our son and I intend to nurse this baby. However, Bobby pillows do not fit if you are a plus-size Mommy. So, I never got one. There are several things, including maternity clothes, are hard to find when you are not "model thin" when you get pregnant. It is like "fat people don't have love in their lives; don't reproduce; don't get pregnant" and it is constantly there confronting you. It is so frustrating! When you can find clothes, some of them are so expensive, you feel like "I'd rather be naked." Fortunately, my mother sews and made me some beautiful tops for my last pregnancy. I will have her make a few more as this pregnancy progresses. I did find a swimsuit so I could attend my prenatal water aerobics classes on clearance. It was wonderful. Maternity pants did not fit me so well since I did not get that "basketball" belly. My adjustable ones (the kind with the snaps on the sides) worked best. I am thinking of trying a new pair that I saw online the other day. I will order them in another month or so, once I put the money back. I am trying not to charge a bunch of things. I would love to get a cute t-shirt, but I am fearful of buying one sized to fit me now, because when I get larger, it will not fit. However, I can't seem to find one in my soon-to-be size either. More frustration. Again, if designers acknowledge me and my fellow plus-sized pregnant ladies, they would have to admit that someone found us s*xually attractive and we, like skinny women, were intimate too! I think it bothers them....A LOT.

Where do you live? In the south they have more plus size stores than ever, but if you live in the north then they are very cruel towards plus size women.

So Im really curious. Im all about saving money and not afraid of doing the dirty work. But how exactly do these cloth diapers work? Meaning what goes into it. Regular ones you just toss. Im expecting to wash wash wash. And all the poopyness just down the drain, or what? Im obviously clueless. sorry.

You are not diapering the baby's butt with the cloth diaper. Though you could. My suggestion is to get them so you can use them in place of more expensive "specialty" cloths, diapers, burp cloths, lap pads, etc.
If you are using them to catch the feces, you rinse them out in the toilet and flush the contents. Then, you put the diaper into a diaper pail to soak until you do the laundry. Wash them, dry them (or hang on the line) and then you put them back on the baby.

You can use a simple wash cloth at home instead of baby wipes. Easy to use, readily available and easy to clean. When you are out and about, baby wipes are easier. There are Organic ones out there, if you want them. There are unscented (which I recommend unscented everything until you know your baby's reaction to things) ones as well. Every baby eventually gets a rash. They have a brand new world attacking new skin. I found this very high zinc content cream for my son, Goat's Milk, I think it is called. Has a burgundy and yellow label with a bright yellow lid. It is great! He did not have many rashes, but when he did, this helped right away!
