re: Preparing for Baby...what should I have?

posted 8th Oct
a swing is a must. saved us on many nights. A seat of some sort is a good thing to have if you have a large house. I bought an original Papasan and it was a god send for thoes days when i just needed a shower NOW! I'd place my son just outside the bathroom door and peep in on him ever other minute or so. A pac and play is a good choice because it grows with your baby. it's great for in your room when they are little and great for other parts of your house when you need to put them down.

For 4months and older I suggest a jumparoo. it's great when you need to do some cleaning. My son was very very sad when he out grew his.

hope this helps.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of Cloth diapers so I can start researching prices soon? thanks!

you defintely want to stock up on diapers and wipes, cause it might be a pain to go buy some once the baby is born. also, make sure to pick up a couple of really good nursing bras and tanks, if you plan on breastfeeding. they'll be a life send, and are actually really comfortable to wear even before the baby arrives! think of other really practical items you might need: a first aid kit, a baby medicine kit, a bottle sterilizer, bottles for supplemental feeding, and maybe even some formula, in case your baby needs it. remember that the first week or so you might not get the chance to go buy these things, and stuff like swings and bouncers and such can always wait until the baby can at least lift their heads up! also, in my case, a must have is a carrier/sling/wrap that will allow you movement and hands-freedom but will keep your baby close to you at all times.
good luck!

PS: my little one is due in seven days and i cannot wait! being on maternity leave for the past week is driving me crazy because im so bored, but then again, at least i feel like i'm completely prepared, lol.

I foudn the Cutest thing at Wal-Mart the other day, and its a rubber duck but it tells you if the bath water for you baby it either too hot or too cold. I think its a great idea because i sure dont want to burn my baby and i dont want to freeze her either.

Some hospitals give you a carseat when you deliver I would call and see if yours provides one. Also if can not afford one some sheriff departments give low income familys car seats and WIC should have some contacts for car seats.

okay a lot of you are saying diapers and wipes. is there a certain brand that is better than the others. also, i've heard that the wipe warmers just dry out the wipes. has anyone had this problem yet?

I totally agree.. the baby swing was a life saver my last pregnancy! Also a chair that rocks is definately a good help! I'm making my husband buy me a recliner before i have this baby!

I think the must-haves are some novelty baby onesies...you will get SO many compliments...I ordered mine from custom-kingdom.com, and picked all the colors myself...we just got them yesterday, and I got 5 compliments while buying diapers at WalMart!!! I would suggest going maybe a size larger than newborn, so the little one can get some extra wear out of it!

Ohh and music too...really soothing music or those cool ocean sound cd's...when baby is a little grouchy just pop on the music and it's naptime!!!

I got some and I hate them - they dont stay on their hands anyhow! I even tried the premie ones thinking they would stay on better, but they were too tight. I would get the onsies/sleepers/gowns with the long sleeves and the fold over mitts... you can get them in cute colors or gerber sells plain white ones like the kind you get from the hospital. They only come in newborn size I think... but, they worked wonderfully for me and now she doesnt really need them anymore anyhow! You could also pocket some from the hospital before you are discharged!
