re: Race, Food Stamps and Kids

Yeah, I think it's stupid that there are all these fast food places around here that accept food stamps. They should be for healthy food only - but I guess "healthy" is probably too subjective.

Wow, that would mean there are practically zero studies that you would trust.

I don't even think the US census goes around and asks every person.

But I was talking about the other "facts" you gave.

You told me it was a "fact" that black people are the US scapegoat and that it was a "fact" that black stereotypes are more widely accepted.

oh the fact that blacks are scapegoats...

No... I can't prove that to you that their sterotypes are more accepted..

BUT you can find out for yourself like I have..

read ANY racial thread on here.. or any news website (especially AOL ugh)

any major media outlet

any comment sections on a story that involves a black person..really

I do agree minorities in general come into the minds of many when they think EBT, Welfare, etc.
Here in LA many associate Hispanic people with welfare as opposed to black people despite the statistics in America. I have heard the racism all over the place here and most of it is geared toward Hispanic people.
There are as many Hispanic people as there are white people here...actually minorities outnumber white people in LA.

Im looking for a job too.. Im going back to the banking industry  and the people treat me the same way.. mad at me because I cant take money off their EBT..sorry but it DOESNT work like that. Some people really do not deserve those things..

I just smile and cuss them out in my head..

right 90% is a HUGE number I just don't feel that it is accurate.
Hypothetically 9 in 10 black families I know would have used welfare then, I don't find that true.

So the question is what do we need to do about this? Well President Obama has already taken some steps, giving stimulus money to the hardest hit cities and their citizens, extending benefits for those who have lost their jobs. More job training and schooling for those able to work.

That definitely doesn't sound accurate.

Anything that is a .org site is biased.

Quoting SpaceCowgirl:“ Lol, you do understand the problem with your assertion, right? 38% of welfare recipients are white and 37% are black but the US population is 77% white and 12% black.”

That is what I was thinking. There are more white people so of course the number is going to be higher.

And going by my observations: When I go into the food stamp office, of about 75 people waiting in the waiting room, maybe 5 are white, maybe 2 are hispanic and the rest are black. I'm not sure if it is like that everywhere, but as for around here, it seems to be somewhat true. Now the number of black people recieving help may be high, but 90% seems a little out there.

And I do think it is a cycle. Not only for black people but for poor people in general. My great grandma got stamps, my grandma, and my mom. And now me. My mom recieved welfare as well. And I don't blame her. If my dad had been paying child support like he was supposed to be, she wouldn't have had to. I blame a lot of these dead-beat dads for the high numbers.

This is only the point that I was trying t get at...and no beides populare rumor, I'm not an ignorant racist bitch. The satistics seem very high, but it is a correct statement that unless any active difference is done, the cycle will continue. This is not from my mouth but my case worker's who sees hundereds ofwelfare and food stamp apps a day.  And it does have to do with the type of men that come into our lives. Some mothers don't have a choice other than to get government assistance when the baby's father just up and leaves. Some moms can give their children everything and the world; others can't due to unforseen circumstances. But this doesn't mean that the cycle should continue. We should always try to make better.
