Now that the twins are getting close to a year, I've started to get the "Are you still breastfeeding?" questions and looks when I mention breastfeeding. I tried to make this my facebook status but it's too long. Anyway, I'm just sharing my standpoint as well as the information I have discovered over the course of the last year and a half or so
.

FYI
~The American Academy of Pediatrics states that "There is no upper limit to the duration of breastfeeding and no evidence of psychologic or developmental harm from breastfeeding into the third year of life or longer". Breastfeeding isrecommendedthrough the first year and beyond by the AAP.
~The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for TWO years.
~Anthropological studies done by Katherine Dettwyler, PHD, indicate that without cultural influence, humans would breastfeed for 2.5 to 7 years.
~Teething can present temporary discomfort when a tooth is actively erupting. For the most part, however, babies don't bite after they have teeth. They can't drink and bite at the same time. You guess which one a hungry baby will choose.
~Self weaning rarely occurs before the child is 18 months old.
I WILL BE LETTING MY CHILDREN SELF-WEAN. Please refer to the above information before you question or judge my choices. The immunological/maternal/physical/mental benefits of breastfeeding extend past a year and continue for as long as breastfeeding does. I am doing what I believe is best, and what every major pediatric associate tells me so.

ETA: I'm curious how breastfeeding is going to be past a year as far as frequency goes. Any personal experience would be much appreciated!!
