OMG! I know. Kids are so darn smart these days. Did you see the segment on the news a while back where the lady was breastfeeding her 8 year old? I was referring to that. I think breastmilk is healthiest for babies but there comes a certain point where I believe children should get their nutrition elsewhere.

I lost my supply quick because of work but if I could, I wish I was still breastfeeding, but I'm completely dry. When my daughter sees my boobs, she'll just poke at it out of curiosity.

I don't see anything wrong with it personally. But ok.

What does it mean to self wean? How does a baby/child do this?

As they get older, they gradually drop feedings until they wean completely. Usually
between 2 and 3.

Breastfeed them as long as you want to... I wish I had been able to breastfeed my little girl longer than I did... There were some issues with me breastfeeding her so I had to eventually stop trying. If I'm lucky enough to have another baby I'm definately going to try to breastfeed again.

usually as bub gets older(18 months-2yrs) most mums will use the 'dont ask, dont refuse' method, meaning they wont offer the breast but will wait for the child to ask for it(through signals, words, whatever they usually use) and eventually they will stop asking.

Thats the only way i know off, but there is probably other ways, i havent done much research into it yet as my LO is only 4 months old

That's about right.   Most moms who practice CLW don't stop offering until 2 years though, since the WHO recommends bf'ing at least that long.

I usually stop offering after they refuse each time I offer for 2 weeks. That happened at 14 months, 10 months  , and then I had to wean Shep at 18 months. That way I know it's not just a strike. But there's no way I'd keep offering for a whole year after they refused, that would just be silly.

With the twins, I'm going to be more careful (I was dieting and I had taken Sudafed with my 10 month old, and dried up my supply to the point that he wasn't satisfied at all from nursing-and his pedi had given me the go ahead to give him whole milk in a cup-which he loved and replaced me with) and I'm NOT going to get pregnant again, so I really hope to make it to atleast 2 years. But if they give it up before then, I have to respect that too. Even though it's not what I want.

I find it personally a little disturbing for an 8 year old child to still be breastfed. To each his own.
